As you may know, April Fool's is coming up this Friday. For those
unaware, it
is a day where many people and organisations play "pranks" by
writing interesting articles.
For instance, Microsoft recently has posted an article about "bash in
Windows
10", which also includes a section joking about the availability of
Ubuntu binaries within Windows 10.
Justin and I were thinking about publishing an April Fool's article on
Fedora
Magazine. Some ideas included "Internet Explorer now default
internet browser in Fedora 24" or "Fedora will support sticky keys in
Fedora 24"
If we made an April Fool's article about Internet Explorer (r), we would
be
using a Microsoft trademark. However, the usage should be covered under
fair use because it is a parody and “use of some elements of a prior
author’s composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments
on that author’s works.” (Campbell v. AcuffRose Music, Inc.)

I think the post about Internet Explorer could be interesting, and sticky
keys
would also be a quite interesting post. It would help us garner free
publicity and enjoy a good joke :)
After April Fool's, we can mend the article to show that it was an April
Fool's prank. It seems only fair since Microsoft has made April Fool's
pranks about Linux for many years in a row :)

I'm +1 to something cheeky, but -1 to it being about Microsoft.
I think we'd have to think carefully about about this, but I'm open to
ideas. Even just making the magazine upside-down for the day could be funny
enough without making it about anyone else.

I like the idea of doing some pranks in that day (that I don't
remember which one exactly is). I think we should throw some ideas to
the list, and see which one looks best.
If we can prank on something else but another company better, if not,
I don't mind to joke on Microsoft as Chaoyi said they have been joking
on us for a long while.

-1 on this idea. April Fools Day isn't a global event, for one thing,
so we'd be going over the heads of some folks. Also satire runs the
risk of poking people in the eye unintentionally, and we shouldn't be
doing that either. I think this idea has come up multiple times over
the last 13 years and usually shot down for the same reasons. Let's
leave the April Fools stuff to the snarky outlets.

Too much of a risk that people don't think it is funny, or of offending
someone. I can't really think of any potential PR or marketing gain for us

None of these really strike me as funny, and also look likely to be
misinterpreted.
My suggestion is we drop the April Fool's idea for this year. It's about
12 hours until April 1 (here) and we really don't have time to execute
anything worthy of Fedora.

I think a good April Fools joke draws attention, but it's generally not
positive or negative. People will link to the April Fool's joke on
social media with a title like "look at what Fedora did for April
Fools!", find it funny (or not), and move on with their day. A joke
that's not funny isn't a grave offense.
If people hate an April Fools joke, they're more likely to blame the
day than the source, eg "I hate how everyone's making these desperate
unfunny bids for attention on this particular day" and not "I hate this
obvious bid for attention from Fedora."
Plenty of people and communities do April Fools jokes. You see them from
individuals, from huge companies like Google or Microsoft, and from
communities like Gentoo. Even if April Fools isn't a global event, it's
more-or-less been made one on the internet.
The largest risk is probably just making a joke that's in poor taste,
which I don't think is a /huge/ risk, but better safe than sorry. People
can be fickle, and hopefully someone can make that call.
I'd say +1 for the April Fools' joke.
It's relatively low-risk, and it's a break away from what some may
perceive to be a "generic, sanitized, playing-it-safe uninspired blog
that exists solely to promote Fedora and doesn't provide anything of value."
It's fun, and given a choice between marketing and not marketing, I'd
rather lean towards marketing than arguing whether something is safe enough.
I'll be the first to admit I know nothing of marketing, though.
