I am attempting to restore some software on a few machines that are
currently installed with Fedora 10, and have discovered a problem with the
mirror list. When going to
http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist\?repo=fedora-10\&arch=x86_64
to retrieve the list of mirrors to download packages from, all of the URLs
provided are incorrect, having replaced "fedora" in the results with
"a" -
this has shown to be the case for both the fedora-10 repo, as well as the
updates-released-source-f10 repo. To determine the extent of the problem,
I checked with both the x86_64 and i386 versions of the repo mirror list
from fedora 7 through 12, and found that the problem exists only with
Fedora 9 and 10, but for all repositories related to it. In each case,
the repo list comes back looking like this:
http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=updates-released-source-...
produces:
# repo = updates-released-source-f10 arch = source Using Internet2 country
= US country = global
http://archive.kernel.org/fedora-archive/a/linux/updates/10/SRPMS/
http://archive.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/a/linux/updates/10/SRPMS/
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/fedora-archive/a/linux/updates/10/SRPMS/
http://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/archive.fedoraproject.org/a/l...
http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=fedora-10&arch=x86_64
produces:
# repo = fedora-10 arch = x86_64 Using Internet2 country = US country =
global
http://archive.kernel.org/fedora-archive/a/linux/releases/10/Everything/x...
http://archive.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/a/linux/releases/10/Everythi...
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/fedora-archive/a/linux/releases/10/Everything/x8...
http://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/archive.fedoraproject.org/a/l...
http://archive.nl.eu.kernel.org/fedora-archive/a/linux/releases/10/Everyt...
In each case, the list is considerably shorter than those provided for
releases 7, 8, 11, and 12, and as you can see from the URLs, the /fedora/
which should be before linux/releases/... has been replaced with /a/,
which renders yum unable to locate the repository contents.
While I can fix this on my local machine by manually inputting repository
URLs, it's not a "proper" fix, and I felt that you should be made aware
of it, as it appears to be a recent bug - I was able to update another of
these machines (which has fedora 10 on it) a few days ago without
problems.
