Default Desktop Environment
by Brendan Jones
Hi all,
I've been thinking about what kind desktop environment would best suit
the needs of audio users.
Since the Gnome 3 release I've kind of abandoned GNOME as it doesn't
really quite gel with my workflow. Since then I've been hovering over
KDE/XFCE, but the latest mongrel openbox (mixture of xfce4/qt-razor)
setup I'm using now seems to be winning.
The qt razor project seems really exciting [1] - I've found the
components to be really quite mature but alas a little sparse. Razor is
not in the repos yet but there is talk of including it and it is under
heavy development [2]. I'm wondering if razor could be used as the
default desktop for an audio spin? If the desktop team ever decide to
endorse a Razor spin we could leverage off their efforts as well.
Jus thinking aloud - let me know what you think

ETA for music spin release date?
by William Blackburn
hello, I am wondering when do u think this spin will be ready for deployment. i am willing to help with it. if u need anything tested, just post it up and I'll test it. will the ccrma repos be defualt ? I am a curious george :). I look forward to this taking off, although to be honest, this is not the first time someone has planned a music spin and it never happened. I was on the list for the last one and it never happened. So, if I can help, just let me know. I am not a kernel hacker, but I know enough to get by and to maybe even contribute something useful.
One more question, how will this spin be any different than a regular fedora install with the ccrma repos installed? Are you guys planning on using the CCRMA kernel or will you roll your own for this spin? It has been my experience that the CCRMA kernel(rt) is usually a release or two behind and it doesn't always work on my machine.
Im not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I just want to know the details before I get excited. Are you guys documenting the spin anywhere yet?

PULSE Audio on the Music Spin
by Brian Monroe
Would be possible to ditch pulseaudio completely for this project? By that
I mean, not have it installed in any way... I just feel like we might be
better off not having to deal with it. That may even be the plan, I just
didn't know and was curious to find out.

New packages / Fedora Audio
by Brendan Jones
Hi all,
I have recently gone through the pain of relocating countries, setting
up new workstations etc. and would love to have all the packages I use
sitting in Fedora. As a result I've packaged a few things which I use
What is the status of the Fedora Audio SIG? After going through this
myself I am keen to resurrect the idea of a Fedora Studio. We could even
make it a feature of Fedora 17.
We would probably need to coordinate from planetccrma what desperately
needs to be in mainline Fedora and any other packages which are missing.
If there is anything you would like packaged which is not let me know.
In the meantime there is a new packages that have hit Fedora 16 (at
.least) in the last month or so.
zita-at1 - Fons' auto-tuner
zita-rev1 - Reverb from Fons
phat - GTK toolkit for audio software, was in planetccrma, depandancy of
specimen. New project coming soon to Fedora petri-foo, which
replaces/inherits specimen (currently FTBS in planet)
clxclient - dependancy of zita*, previously in planetccrma*
I also have a couple of lv2 plugins awaiting review here [1].
Also thinking of packaging Neil, although this will probably need to
reside in rpmfusion
regards,
Brendan

Moving some CCRMA packages into Fedora
by Brendan Jones
Hi all,
as mentioned before, if there is ever going to be some kind of audio
spin, we need to move some of the most common used CCRMA packages into
Fedora - that should free up Fernando to keep working on the rt kernel ;)
I've started on some of the smaller ones - if some of the developers
would like to review swap please do! I'll keep adding to the list as I
knock some off. If anyone wants to maintain/co-maintain please feel free.
I'm also trying to package the new LV2 stack to make sure we are in a
position to package all the new plugins that are coming out.
CCRMA
788718 clalsadrv - An ALSA driver C++ library (most of the following
depend on this one)
789255 ebumeter - Loudness measurement according to
EBU-R128
789251 jmeters - Multichannel audio level meter
789249 jkmeter - Horizontal or vertical bar-graph audio
levels meter
789240 freqtweak - Realtime audio frequency spectral
manipulation
789059 jaaa - JACK and ALSA Audio Analyzer
789055 japa - JACK and ALSA Perceptual Analyser
789385 ambdec - an ambiosonics decoder
789390 aeolus - aeolus organ synthesizer
789391 aeolus-stops - aeolus presets
LV2
788717 lv2-ir - An LV2 impulse response reverb plugin
784605 lv2-instance-access
- An LV2 audio plug-in extension (part of the spec)
783825 suil - A lightweight C library for loading and wrapping
LV2 plugin UIs
789386 lilv - An LV2 Resource Description Framework Library
My packages awaiting review can be found here [1]
cheers
Brendan
