IRC Meeting Monday (new time slot!)
by Jørn Loamx
Good Friday afternoon/morning everyone
I would just like to remind everyone about the IRC meeting this coming
Monday. The meeting will be held at #fedora-audio @ 23.00 UTC +1 (22.00
UTC). The calendar[1] has been updated to reflect the new time. The new
time is to encourage higher attendance. I will be in the IRC channel
from 18.00 UTC just in case someone shows up early.
These are the points I would like to discuss:
* Recap from previous meeting
* What is the status of submission (will we meet the 1st of July deadline):
**The kickstart file
** Essential packages
** configuration
* Primary software: What do we *have* to have
* Desktop environment
* Design and artwork
* Test days
* Anything else that needs discussion
I hope as many as possible can show up for the meeting and that we can
have some good discussions.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone

Cleaning up and getting organized
by Jørn Loamx
Fedora jam now has it's own spin page[1]. I also thought this would be a
good time to clean up the wiki pages that are already used by the
project. There are two, one called "Audio creation", and one called
"audio_creation_spin_development"[2]. The latter we should use to keep
ourselves organized. I have started cleaning it up, by moving thing
around a little and putting discussions into the talk page.
The way it should work now is the following:
The primary packeges is a flat list with the name of packages we *need*
to have in the spin for it to be a complete Audio creation spin. If you
are unsure if what you want is a primary package, post on the talk page,
or just send a message to the mailing list and see how people feel. I
have created a script that goes through the primary packages list and
checks if they are packaged or not, and if they are up for review[3].
If there is a package you would like to see in the spin, but don't think
it *has* to be there, add it to the wishlist. I will try to make it
easier to add to the wishlist in the near future, until then it's the
same as before.
Anyone is free to take a task from the task list if they don't feel like
creating packegaes, just remember to write that you have taken it. I
will update the task list as time goes by.
If there are any questions about what needs to be done, or where we are
at, don't hesitate to contact me
tl;dr: only packages we *need* should go into the primary packages list.
If you have submitted a package to the list/wishlist, make sure it's
where it should be

The Spin: a New Name
by Christopher Antila
Hi:
I'm breaking the name discussion into a different thread to help
organize our thoughts. And because I forgot to put this in my previous
email.
Here are the names of the current spins:
Design-suite
Electronic-Lab
Games
KDE
LXDE
Robotics
Scientific-KDE
Security
SoaS
XFCE
They're all boring, except SoaS ("Sugar on a Stick" for the Sugar
desktop environment on a USB stick). Thus I suggest the following, some
of which have already been suggested:
Audio
Music
Audio-Creation
Music-Creation
Audio-KDE (especially good if we choose GNOME)
Security (we'll ask them to borrow the spin name... nobody will find
us... it'll be the most secure spin ever!)
Sound Creator
Soundwave
Also David, I object to your end-tag for friday_mood. In Fedora, it's
always the weekend!
Christopher.

Spin/kickstart details that need defining
by Brendan Jones
Hi Jorn
saw your email to the spins list - that's great. Also good to know that
our conservative estimate for the review deadline was exactly that - we
have 3 more weeks than we bargained for.
I just wanted to list a few items that need clarification from the Spins
team that are really outside my knowledge:
1 kernel parameters ( threadirqs in our case) how (can?) we add them to
the Live system and on install?
2 is it possible to modify sysconfig files in / owned by other packages?
- ie. changing the default values in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf or
/etc/pulse/default.pa might be advantageous.
3 is it possible to change/set config items in /home/<installed_user> ?
(e.g. /home/<user/.pulse - which would be a solution if (2) is not possible)
4 adding items to /etc/xdg/autostart (to autostart apps by default for
all users).
5 (related to #4) can we drop files into ~/.config/autostart as part of
the install process for the default user?
6 and which if any of these things can we do for the Live user?
The autostart questions arise from me considering having a DBUS enabled
qjackctl launch on login, configured to autostart jack (this requires
modifying the users qjackctl settings in $HOME). Pulseaudio shold
release the device and bridging should just work with the
module-jackdbus-detect, although I'm finding it a bit flaky here. Of
course none of this addresses selecting the default audio device etc etc.
I'm sure more questions will come up - I'm really just thinking out
loud. If for example none of these things are possible, we really would
have to develop a standard alone app to configure this stuff with the
user interactively.
Anyway, food for thought.
Brendan
PS. I will get kxstudio cadence up to my repo soon.
PPS. I think I'll forward this to the music list

I just saw the new release video for Fedora 17 Beefy Miracle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmWdYJTsKbM
If they can do it for Fedora (good work!) then we can do it for the
Audio Spin. How feasible is this? We could even incorporate the
multi-national identity of our contributors!

First audio spin meeting
by Jørn Loamx
Good afternoon all
I would just like to remind everyone that there is a scheduled meeteing
coming up on Monday. Since I am new and I don't know everyone that well
yet (and you don't know me), i would like to keep the meeting informal.
For that reason i won't be making a proper agenda for the meeting, but
the things i would like to discuss are:
* What we need to have ready in the kickstarter file
* What software do we want (discussion only, we decide later)
* What should we call the spin?
* Anything that we feel needs discussing.
I would also like to get to know people a little, so if you have time to
stick around after the meeting, that would be fun too :)

In need of a sponsor
by Jørn Loamx
Good evening all.
I'm one of the Google Summer of Code students at fedora. I'm working
with the audio SIG to help create an audio spin of fedora. One of my
tasks is to help with the packaging, as there are quite a few packages
that needs to be packaged into fedora to make the audio spin become a
reality. This is where i need a little help. I'm hoping someone can help
sponsor me on my first package[1]. Any help or input i can get is also
welcome, as i'm quite new to the packaging world and have quite a bit to
learn still

Musician's guide on the Spin (and other links)
by Brendan Jones
I was poking around the kickstarts for some of the other spins to see
what they are doing in addition to the normal live CD's.
One thing that stood out was this from the Design Spin. It creates a
desktop entry in the %post section which is simply an internet link. We
could do the same for the Musicians guide rather than having to package it:
# Add link to the Inkscape Course
cat >> /usr/share/applications/inkscape-course.desktop << FOE
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Introduction To Inkscape
GenericName=Inkscape Course
Comment=Materials from Máirín Duffy's Inkscape Class
Exec=xdg-open http://linuxgrrl.com/learn/Introduction_To_Inkscape
Type=Application
Icon=fedora-logo-icon
Categories=Graphics;Documentation;
FOE
chmod a+x /usr/share/applications/inkscape-course.desktop
For those who are interested I was simple browsing through the accepted
spins here:
