If you could use 'diff -u origfile newfile > output.patch' from the
root of the source tree that would be better.

Yes, it seems to be playback-related. Actually, Sayamindu fixed that already, but it got reverted with Derek's anti-freeze patch. He just made a combined version:

ANNOUNCE: F11-0.88 Alpha2 (os258py)
by Bernie Innocenti
This is the Alpha2 milestone of our Sugar 0.88 series for XO.
Please refer to this page for the current status and download
instructions:
http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Deployment_Team/Sugar-0.88_Notes
Surprise surprise! We now have parallel builds for both the XO-1 and the
XO-1.5!
I'll make an effort to keep the releases synchronized so people can test
on both platforms, but at this time we have no resources to work on
platform specific bugs affecting the XO-1.5.
== Changes relative to the previous release (os240py) ==
* Include Sugar 0.88.1 packages (pbrobinson)
* Rebase unmerged patches on top of 0.88.1 and shave off a few
which are no longer needed. The queue is still very long, help
is needed to upstream as many as possible before release
* Disabled the hot corners for the frame, as requested by
participants of the OLPC Realness Summit. I'm not convinced
this is really a gain, but let's first see how many people
ask to revert this change (tch, bernie)
* Disable sshd startup to save time/memory (bernie)
* add IRC and SIP protocols to Empathy client (bernie)
* Include the Words activity (bernie)
* Add a few small content bundles (bernie)
* Pull latest OS updates from upstream (fedora)
== Bugs fixed in this release ==
* xulrunner 1.9.2, attempting to fix font size problems (bernie)
http://bugs.sugarlabs.org/ticket/2018
* Prevent double-clicks on entries in the journal from opening
2-3 instances of the same activity (tch)
* Rework code to read name widget in the activity toolbar,
although there are still ways to fool it (bernie)
http://bugs.sugarlabs.org/ticket/1948
* Fix font size in Terminal (jasg)
* Fix layout of Record UI, although with a temporary kludge (m_anish)
* Reconnect to last AP on startup (erikos)
http://bugs.sugarlabs.org/ticket/1883
* Fix the nefarious 1-dot boot hang bug (dsd, bernie)
* Make search box in library homepage narrower so it doesn't overflow
(bernie)
* Avoid duplicated mesh icons in neighborhood view (tch)
* Proper Geode video driver fix for the "black boxes on buttons"
bug in GNOME. Note, (frank_huang)
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15700
http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/10076
NOTE: for safety, I have not yet removed the MigrationHeuristic
option in xorg.conf. Please, try testing without it.
== Known bugs ==
We still have a bunch of serious regressions still open:
* ALT-TAB does not switch between apps (tch, quozl, bernie)
* Activities sometimes start and remain in window. Window
appears at least briefly on all launches. (aa?)
* Pulsing launch icon is delayed or absent; occasional "activity
failed to start" message then the activity starts (tch)
* Measure sometimes locks up on recording, quitting from frame
then brings up metacity dialog "activity is not responding"
(I could never reproduce this myself)
* Font in Write is small and text does not fill the screen width (jasg)
* Browse: sometimes clicking links in frames creates tabs
(need someone to look at this. aa?)
* Turtle Blocks: ctrl-c ctrl-v sometimes do not work (walter)
* Sugar sometimes restarts; only seen 3 times, twice clicking on
journal and once deleting a journal entry
(can't reproduce this, maybe a geode driver bug. Next time please
check /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old and other logs)
All the above bugs seem quite hard. Any help fixing them would be
greatly appreciated.
== How to help testing ==
Feedback from the entire community is very appreciated, although we're
not planning any further releases of the Sugar 0.84 series.
Bugs affecting upstream components are better filed in their respective
trackers:
* Sugar and activities: http://bugs.sugarlabs.org/
* Fedora 11: http://bugzilla.redhat.com/
* Drivers and OLPC OS customizations: http://dev.laptop.org/
* Paraguay-specific bugs: http://trac.paraguayeduca.org/
If you're unsure where a bug belongs to, use the Paragauy Educa tracker.
Please, always assign these bugs to "Carlos", who will keep our status
summary updated.
== Acknowledgments ==
I wish to thank Paraguay Educa and Activity Central for providing
essential engineering resources to make this effort possible.
I also appreciate the expertise and support of many dedicated community
developers and testers.

Re: Am now getting a "zero dot" hang on my XO-1.5
by Mikus Grinbergs
Disclaimer: I am not asking for help; I am sharing my experiences,
I happened to get the message "General Protection Exception" while OFW
was installing os126. [That is, during 'fs-update u:\os126.zd', when
about one inch of the screen had gotten filled with green squares.]
Did the complete reset (disconnect AC and battery for a minute) -- then
fs-update ran correctly.
Don't know why I've been seeing this situation now, and not earlier. My
XO-1.5 does have a cat. 6 internal SD card - but the system has been
running well with that SD card for about a month now.
mikus
p.s. My memory may be unclear, but it seems to me that my system with
os126 is "snappier" than it was with os125.

Grabar
by Mikus Grinbergs
Disclaimer: I am not asking for help; I am sharing my experiences.
My XOs use US English as their language. Yet recent versions of the
Record Activity show up as "Grabar" in Home View and in Journal View.
I believe this is due to Record.activity/locale/en/activity.linfo having
[Activity]
name = Grabar
[In fact, Record has "Grabar" in all its .linfo files.]
Shouldn't the locale/__/activity.linfo files be supplying the
appropriate name for the target language (in this case, English) ?

Am now getting a "zero dot" hang on my XO-1.5
by Mikus Grinbergs
Upgraded os125 to kernel 2.6.31_xo1.5-20100607.1740.1.olpc.ead3d3e.i586
Now, whenever I boot, right after the line "Loading ramdisk image from
/pci/sd@c/disk@1:\boot/initrd.img ..." I get the message "General
Protection Exception" - and the boot hangs.
The bypass is to do a complete reset (pull AC and battery for a bit),
and only then try the boot -- now the boot proceeds normally.
The problem is consistently repeatable. I did not have the problew when
booting os125 with its original (month-old) kernel. XO-1.5 B2. Q3A39C.

[Fwd: Record-79 is better, but not good enough]
by Bernie Innocenti
Thanks for your amazing testing work, but please also keep sugar-devel@
posted when discussing activity bugs. I've also cc'd the current Record
maintainers to attract their attention.
I can confirm the 5 seconds of silence before sound starts on the
XO-1.5. Sound was also quite faint.
On the XO-1.5, Measure (v29) also seems to have the input levels wrong.
The samples look as if they were always in overrange.

Record-79 launches, works adequately on XO-1.5 (os125):
Video - worked ok; played back ok in Record, Jukebox, Browse
very first frame was dim, off-color
Audio - worked ok; played back ok in Jukebox; sound level acceptable
but Record and Browse played back 5 sec of silence
before sound output began
Photo - worked ok; played back ok in Record, Image Viewer
----
Record-79 launched, but was sometimes unusable on F11-on-XO-1 (os15,
os240py)
Video - often would hang while trying to perform save
sound is quite faint
very first frame was dim, off-color
High quality caused Record to vanish
played back ok in Record, Jukebox
played back thumbnail-size in Browse
Audio - sound is quite faint
played back in Record, Jukebox, Browse - but there was 5 sec
of silence before sound output began
Photo - worked ok; played back ok

I don't think Floppy Disks are relevant at all. I doubt any of the
developers actually have a floppy drive to test.
For the boot helper CD..... I have no interest in getting it working,
I have asked people to provide me specific devices that have problems
and need the boot helper CD. The only one i've ever got back is newer
Mac's. I know what that problem is. For the rest no one has bothered
to send me the specs so I haven't bothered spending the time.

Too many open fronts?
by Yioryos Asprobounitis
I was wondering if there are too many open fronts for the number of available people and none of them appears to close any time soon.
For the XO-1 there is the os8.2Bx series 8months now in development and testing, and the F11/0.84 for a comparable amount of time.
In the mean time F11/0.88 is in development while F12+ builds are on the sidelines waiting for the i686 bug resolution to jump in.
However, the 20month+ old F9/0.82, os802 build remains the official XO-1 build.
Shouldn't it be some focus on os8.2Bx/F11-0.84 so they can be finalized, become official and put aside once and for all, instead of having them linger with the newer efforts and still show 802 as the official one?
Is XO-1 software development going to proceed only through deployments (request)?
The XO-1.5 is still missing a production build (in my view) since the marquee Record.activity is still problematic and the openchrome driver still has problems with screen rotation among other things.
However, it would appear the ARM/XO-1.75/3 is getting the limelight at the moment.
It s always exciting to look to the future but shouldn't XO-1.5 get a production build at some point soon?
I do not really know what's going on behind the scenes, but looking at the mailing lists I have the feeling that we are looking at many individual little trees while there are big un-wooded areas in the forest.
Just 2c from a (n over?)worrying outsider.
