If the intent is to be able to say "rawhide runs on the XO" (e.g., with
GNOME), then talking about "the time we have left before release" makes
sense.
I've been running Sugar on rawhide on the XO, and it is not clear to me
that "what's not currently working" can be conveniently matched against
"the time we have left". What if the first thing added doesn't do the
fix (or takes longer than planned) ?
Then the backup plan is to isolate as much as we can, minimize the deltas
as much as possible, roll our own based on (F-11 plus patches), and
continue work to push things upstream in the F-12 timeframe.
Some of the serious things that currently impact the usability of
Sugar on
rawhide on the XO (the list is longer, these are examples):
- tiny text
Bug to be filed shortly.
- no wireless
Wireless works in GNOME but not Sugar as of latest build, abostrom is
filing against Sugar.
- no collaboration (empty Neighborhood View)
Well, no wireless means no collaboration, right?
- no power management
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=465284, I reprioritized this
to "high" this morning, but realistically this probably won't be looked at
until F-12.
- no working Browser
A few folks working on testing this.
- difficulty installing Activities
- no XO-keyboard "extra key" support
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=468744, also reprioritized to
high since it's blocking several other bugs.
- (a hurdle for me) SD card operations take too much time
Unclear here.
- some tools not usable (e.g., sugar-launch, olpc-log)
Don't know much about these.
The only way forward is to identify issues, track them, and fix them
upstream, with what resources we have available. A lot of these fixes
will get in during the F-11 timeframe, and a lot won't.
