Retiring python-nose from Fedora 43+

Hello, I propose we retire python-nose from Fedora 43+ immediately after branching. Heads-up: Upcoming python-hypothesis update in Rawhide

Dear all, I'm working on a Hypothesis update in Rawhide - we generally try and update it at least once per release cycle, and only in Rawhide, to keep it reasonably up to date. Replace python-crypto with python-pycryptodome in Fedora?

Miro Hrončok suggested I send this to the python-devel mailing list after some earlier discussions elsewhere: The website for python-crypto states that the software is no longer maintained. The same website suggests the presence of security vulnerabilities and presents python-pycryptodome as a replacement. Fedora provides python-pycryptodomex (note the trailing 'x'), which allows that package to coexist with python-crypto. Dependent packages, such as vyper, need to provide patches to make use of python-pycryptodomex's name as a dependency as well as its adjusted namespace (Cryptodome instead of Crypto). The conflict between python-crypto and (the origial) python-pycryptodome that led to python-pycryptodomex was discussed in 2019 [1]. In light of the lack of maintenance, should we offer a formal change proposal to replace python-crypto with python-pycryptodome in Fedora 42 or beyond? Heads-up: deprecating python-pytest-runner

Dear all, pytest-runner has been considered deprecated upstream since 2019: https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-runner/commit/78a492cb9f611a4fccaf6556… and the repo upstream was archived over a year ago (December 3, 2023). As such, and given the test suite never worked (it ran 0 tests, see https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//packages/python-pytest-runner/4.0/24.fc…) prior to `setup.py test` being removed in setuptools 74 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2319709) and that the only test defined requires Internet access anyway - I've now disabled tests and added import checks instead, and marked the package as `deprecated()` - so this should not be used for new packages. Need help with pywt

I'm trying to update pywt to 1.6 or 1.8 here: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-pywt/pull-request/6 I'm running into an issue where it seems that I must install the built wheel locally so that I can then build the docs, but I don't know how to do that. When I do that locally it works (network!) but then I get doc build failures as well. Any Python HTML (generation) library packaged in Fedora?

I am looking for a Python library in Fedora that can be used for generating HTML. Google shows that a number of them exist, but I haven't yet found one that is actually packaged for Fedora (and I'd really prefer not to sully my soul with pip). Am I missing anything? Thanks!

With cooperation from Athos Ribiero, Parag Nemade, and Benson Muite, I’ve completed all of the necessary dependency work and posted fontmake for review at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2331684. Thanks! I’m targeting Rawhide only for now, since I’m reluctant to upgrade python-glyphsLib from 5.x to 6.x in stable releases, but that should be a compatible upgrade in practice, so it’s probably feasible to bring fontmake to F41 and F40 if someone really needs it. I also opened a PR for cascadia-code-fonts, https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/cascadia-code-fonts/pull-request/3. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go as far as actually building the font from sources with fontmake, but the PR does at least take a few steps in that direction. Retire Python 3.8 from Fedora 42+?

Hey Pythonistas, - Python 3.8 reached upstream End of Life 2024-10-07. - RHEL 8 Python 3.8 Stream has been retired since May 2023. - Debian buster had Python 3.7, bullseye has 3.9. - Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) has Python 3.8. - Standard support ends April 2025. Fedora 42 release date is April 2025.
