Hi i installed 4 times " Rstudio " on my fedora desktop in the last 2 weeks...i don't know why " Rstudio " disapear of my programs...........i install it again , it works between 3 or 6 times and then disapear of my programs again...why ???? can you please help me...and thanks again

Rebuild packages for F26

Hi, reading http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/mass-rebuild/f26-failures.html we can see that all the R packages that depend on Fortran need to be rebuild for F-26, due to the mass rebuild (gcc upgrade). My question is what is the best way to proceed: should this be done in a centralized way or done individually by each packager? Regards, -- José Abílio

Libcurl support

R has support for libcurl (>= 7.28.0) since R version 3.2.0. This feature allows the functions functions url() and download.file() to access secure URLs. With the US government adopting an https-only policy for federal websites and web services it is increasingly important to offer secure download facilities to R users. Users will also benefit from the increased security of downloading and installing R packages from a CRAN mirror that supports https. Users can test whether libcurl is supported with: > capabilities("libcurl") libcurl FALSE Fedora binaries for R do not currently support libcurl. It would be very helpful if they did. It suffices to have libcurl-devel as a build requirement and it will be picked up by the configure script. Bug in foreign::read.arff()?

Hi, I am currently trying to open an ARFF file created with Weka 3-7-12 (latest) with foreign::read.arff(). Unfortunately, it fails. The problem lies in the management of the (separator and mostly) quote char(s), inside quoted strings. Indeed, apparently foreign.arff() acts like read.csv, which documentation (that points to scan()'s documentation) says: If ‘sep’ is the default (‘""’), the character ‘\’ in a quoted string escapes the following character, so quotes may be included in the string by escaping them. If ‘sep’ is non-default, the fields may be quoted in the style of ‘.csv’ files where separators inside quotes (‘''’ or ‘""’) are ignored and quotes may be put inside strings by doubling them. However, if ‘sep = "\n"’ it is assumed by default that one wants to read entire lines verbatim. Unfortunately, Weka does not follow these rules when generating a CSV/ARFF file! According to the discussion I had with its developers: http://weka.8497.n7.nabble.com/Trying-to-reconciliate-R-and-Weka-a-k-a-on-t… and their specification of ARFF files (*): http://weka.wikispaces.com/ARFF+%28developer+version%29 Weka always use "," as the sep char and "'" as the quoting char. But when it comes to using a quote char inside a quoted string, they simply precede it with a "\". I've joined a set of files to demonstrate the problem: - plop3.arff uses \' to use quote char inside a quoted string. It opens with Weka/RWeka::read.arff() but fails with foreign::read.arff(). - plop4.arff uses '' to use quote char inside a quoted string. It opens with foreign::read.arff() but not Weka/RWeka::read.arff(). Would it be possible to change the default behaviour of foreign::read.arff() to follow the "specifications" from the Weka team, or to provide configuration options, so that valid arff files can be loaded with foreign? Also, since there does not exist any complete CSV file specification, the same problem occurs with opening CSV files created with Weka in R. I've asked them to parametrize their CSV generator, but it seems difficult to do, so they don't seem willing to do it. As you have the most complete/parametrizeable CSV reader I've seen so far, can I ask you also if it would be possible to parametrize read.csv/read.csv2/read.table to allow for both uses of the quoting char in quoted strings (doubling vs. backquoting)? Hi, recently I have installed rstudio in my machine to see how it works, it insists to install two packages rstudio and another. I found then later that R created a directory called R in my home directory. I find that behavior annoying to have a program installing a directory right in my home directory. The solution, is to add a line in .Renviron, in my case: R_LIBS_USER=~/.local/R/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu-library/3.1 Is there any reason to not have this as the default? I can think of historical reasons, status-quo, R developers insisting in having the directory visible... What do others think? Regards, -- José Abílio

Building RPMs for Fedora with circular "suggest" dependencies

Hello, I am new to this list and in the process of building some RPMs for R packages. I have been rolling my own packages for a few years now and post them for public use. I am a heavy user of R2spec with spec file tweaks of course. Thanks for the author for making life easier. Every so often, I encounter the circular dependency issue with "suggest". For example, I am building R-reshape that depends on a bunch of packages including R-iterator and R-foreach. Unfortunately, R-iterator and R-foreach both suggest each other. I used to be able to force ignoring suggests but this causes problems with check and test and skipping check and test isn't exactly what I want to do either. I would like to know what the "proper" way of building RPMs for the both of these R packages. Thank you! "Sent via BlackBerry from Smart"

R packages that depend explicitly on texlive-latex

Such as R itself, fixed in the version present in updates-testing, there are R packages that depend explicitly on texlive-latex. Although that is not a problem now I would be better to replace that with a requirement on tex(latex) that also works now and it will work when tex is update to the latest texlive. FWIW I am having this problem because I have texlive-2012 installed from Jindrich Novy's repo.
