Renewed interest in Fedora Robotics -- and let's move the conversation

Hi all! A year and a half ago, I asked on this list if there were still people around and interested.[1] And, a few people were. I also found some other people interested who weren't yet connected up, wanting to work on ROS2 in particular (and perhaps some other things as well). But, not much came of it. However, it looks like that interest is building again. As this list has been inactive since that brief conversation, and only intermittent in the few years before _that_, I'd like to take the opportunity to migrate conversation to Fedora Discussion, using the tag `#robotics`: https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/tag/robotics Does anyone have deep concerns about that? It seems like since things have been quite for so long, this is a decent time to try for a change. I know I am not a Robotics SIG member, but I'm sticking my nose in because I'm excited to see things going again, and I don't want converstation to be fragmented. If there are no objections, I'll submit a ticket for Fedora Infrastructure to close the list. Thanks, everyone! Fedora Linux 36 Release Party - we want to hear from you!

Hi Robotics SIG. We are holding a virtual party to celebrate the release of Fedora Linux 36! I am working to organize a series of sessions for the event and Robotics came up as a desired topic. Hi, possible Robotics SIG folks! I know a lot of the base packages in https://labs.fedoraproject.org/en/robotics/ are still being maintained and updated, but I'm curious about the future of the Suite itself. I've gotten some pings recently about ROS (https://www.ros.org/), and wonder if any of the folks here (if anyone is still around) has any interest. I'm also curious if Robotics Suite still makes sense as a spin, or if might be better as a set of containers and use case for Fedora IoT. If anyone's still around, I'd love your thoughts!

Gazebo 11.1 on Fedora 33 and X2Go extreme high CPU; Resource temporarily unavailable in strace

Hello everyone! My name is Suhaas. I will be applying to Fedora Project under GSOC 2021 and would like to start contributing, hopefully to the robotics SIG, since I am eager to explore robotics a bit. I am proficient in C++ and linear and tree data structures. I also know the basics of Python and supervised Machine Learning, though I am not quite as proficient in them. Gazebo 11 problem with protobuf version (3.12.4)

Hi, I am using gazebo on Fedora 33, I installed the version 11 from https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/robotics-sig/gazebo-latest/. This commit changed the spelling involved in the error: https://github.com/protocolbuffers/protobuf/commit/2ae7cf0e03c3469973e592e8… The commit is tagged with the version 3.12.3 (the version probably used for the gazebo compilation). However, the tagging was wrong for 3.12.X and should not include this commit. So the team released a 3.12.4 version without this commit and some others. ( https://github.com/protocolbuffers/protobuf/issues/7632#issuecomment-666764… ) Right now Fedora 33 has the protobuf version 3.12.4 in the official repository so it seems incompatible. So, my question is it possible to build the packages again in https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/robotics-sig/gazebo-latest with the actual protobuf version in F33 repository (3.12.4) ? Gazebo 11.1 and Turtlebot3 with ROS Noetic lots of undefined reference and deprecated warnings on catkin_make

I have ROS Noetic and Gazebo 11.1 running fine now in Fedora 32. I also set $PATH so that Python 3.8 from Fedora, rather than Anaconda Python, is used. I ran catkin_make -DPYTHON_EXECUTABLE=/usr/bin/python3.8 and made sure to source ~/ros_catkin_ws/install_isolated/local_setup.bash and ~/ros_catkin_ws/install_isolated/setup.bash. gazebo-latest copr update to Gazebo 11

Hi all, I've updated the gazebo-latest copr[1] to the Gazebo 11.1.0 release. Upgrading to Gazebo 11 in Fedora proper requires a coordinated upgrade to all of the ignition packages and the sdformat package, as well as two new ignition packages: ignition-common and ignition-fuel-tools. Rather than try to upgrade rawhide to a broken state to submit reviews of ignition-common and ignition-fuel-tools (which also require the rest of the ignition packages to be updated), I opted to use the copr to test and verify the two new packages before submitting them for review. The repository also contains the two physics engines Gazebo supports that are not yet in fedora. These packages are not as polished (e.g. I know some are missing Requires: on -devel dependencies), but I would also like to get them reviewed eventually.
