Today we met Justin at CentOS connect and we took the opportunity to have a first look into our server poll.
Up to today we have 4077 participants but just 548 answered the complete set of questions. The difference is big, but not necessarily a problem. We have to take a closer look at the incomplete items.
Usage: ====== 84% home-lab 44& professional use / SMB 08% Enterprise 11% various other
This doesn’t add to 100% because you can mark more than one usage type!
How use it: =========== 36% no VM, bare metal only 47% VM on self administered hardware 31% on various providers 2 providers stand out: Hetzner 6%, Digital Ocean 4%
70% use it as Web server / for web application
(You can mark multiple categories here, too)
That’s just a very rough first impression. There is a huge amount of interesting information. It will take some efforts to do a valid and complete analysis. But I think it provides us a first impression on which we can make a decision about additional advertising. I think it would be worthwhile.

Wow, this is some great first information. I'm also impressed by the current sample size. I would be interested to see which questions were most frequently left unanswered. The unanswered questions either addressed areas where the community has little interest or indicate questions that were poorly worded by us or failed to give a choice that made sense with the majority of respondents.
But, it is clear that content and work that leans into homelabs would be well received.
Sorry for being unable to attend for so many weeks. I'm not sure when my Wednesdays will turn around allowing me to attend again, hopefully soon.
