I would like to take a more active role in documentation, in the hopes that Fedora has a
resource that is as useful as the Arch Wiki.
A warm welcome to you!
… From the current look of the Fedora server docs it looks like there
is a need for documentation writers.
Indeed, there is a urgent need. I’m the one who wrote the vast majority of the current
documentation, thankfully with a lot of support from the other members of the Fedora
Server working group. Unfortunately, I've been swamped with every other task in the
last few weeks, so I haven't been able to add more posts.
I would be very happy if we could work together to improve it.
Is there are roadmap of tasks that a non-sys-admin could help out
with,
At
https://docs.stg.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-server/ you’ll find the developer
version with all the topics and some rough content concepts for further articles. But the
list is not final or exclusive. Extensions are welcome at any time.
Some additional ideas you’ll find at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Server/Documentation
There is a more detailed roadmap, but currently mostly in my head.
As you will see at „Example use cases“ in the developer version and from our PRD
(
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Server/Product_Requirements_Document_2021) home servers
are one of the widespread and targeted application areas of Fedora Server. This aims to
provide an alternative to the popular, but power and feature-limited NAS appliances.
So your current activity focus would be at the center of our planning and most welcome.
or are you looking for more experienced sysadmins to tackle Fedora
Server Docs? You won't hurt my feelings if you feel that my lack of experience will be
more of a hinderence to the Fedora Server docs than a help.
On the contrary, developers or long-time administrators often have no idea what needs
documentation in the first place. For them, everything is self-evidently perfectly clear.
So when you start experimenting with Fodra as a home server, you are a first-rate
documentation author. And you would fill a big gap.
And for any questions about problems or possible solutions, the server list provides an
excellent discussion forum.
Examples of my writing on Linux topics can be found at
discoverfoss.com.
Nice site. Are you the author „Steve“ over there?
Fortunately, there are several members who would like to work on the documentation and
also worked on the release of the first version. Due to organizational delays to integrate
the initial version into Fedora Docs, we were not able to give the further development the
attention it actually needed. I plan to organize a new launch as soon as I can.
I would love to discuss with you how we can move Fedora Docs forward.
Best
Peter
