Spin status broffice and Desktop had status change

The Desktop spin jumped about 200MB in size a few days ago. Can someone update me on whether Desktop is targeting a CD or something else this time around? If the target is 1GB now, then things are OK. BrOffice stopped building a few days ago with an issue with a ks reference not being found. This doesn't appear to be from the recent BrOffice commit, but I am not sure yet what changed to cause the problem. The other spins are all building OK. I haven't heard that Meego has officially been granted board approval, but am expecting that soon.

The future of Spins SIG

As things begin to wrap up for F14 we need to rethink how Fedora deals with spins. The current way Spins SIG is run is not really functional. We either need to run it better with a lot more help or we need to organize differently, or drop add on spins. I have been acting as an interim lead and wrangler for pretty much the whole of the F14 development process. Spins SIG has actually been disfunctional for over a year. I don't think I can commit to acting as lead or wrangler for the entirety of the F15 development process. Since as currently functioning, there is no back up to me I don't think it is appropriate to start down F15 with people expecting the process to work again, as if I burn out part way through, that will leave the project in a lurch. (It would recover, but it would somewhat painful.) If some others want to take over each of these positions I am willing to help provide context for the follow on and do occasional tasks. I am not willing to be the backup lead or wrangler. So if people do want to try to take up these positions, I think they need to make a very solid commitment to stay on through the whole of the F15 development process. If eventually the SIG work to get enough active members that kind of commitment may not be as critical. I plan to stop acting as lead and wrangler a bit after the F14 release. There are a few clean up things for F14 that actually happen shortly after the release. Once those are complete then Spins SIG will essentially cease to function unless some other people step up to run it. It may be that the project wants to go in a different direction. For example we could rely on a SIG for each spin and drop the overarching SIG. We could also stop producing add on spins and groups could do remixes. We need to decide soon how to proceed as we don't want to get far into the F15 process without knowing where things are going. I am hoping the board can set up a meeting of interested parties from the various spins, the board and release engineering to discuss what our options are and to give people a chance to volunteer to help out.

Spin sizes jumped 25-30 MB

The nightly composes for spins had a noticeable jump in size between the 13th and 14th builds. It looks like these bumps have put the broffice and xfce spins over their target sizes (assuming they are targeting 703 MiB CDs).

Live DVD vs Install Media - Skip Installation stages

While creating remix, I have face this problem. I am trying to create remix which is 3GB size. If I create Live DVD then it need huge RAM. Hi, fedora-live-base.ks now defines: repo --name=fedora --mirrorlist=http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=fedora-$releasever&arch=$basearch repo --name=updates --mirrorlist=http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=updates-released-f$releasever&arch=$basearch The problem is that when I run livecd-creator on fedora-livecd-desktop.ks, I get an error: Error creating Live CD : Unable to download from repo : Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again Because (as I have observed) it substitutes $basearch with current arch, but does not substitute $releasever for anything and therefore that URL is inaccessible. I have solved it by creating a custom kickstart file that overrides fedora and updates repositories. My question is - can it be done simpler? Can I for example define $releasever as an environment variable or something? Because creating custom kickstart file every time I just want to build an ISO for different fedora release is just slow.. spin-kickstarts branched for F-14

There is now an F-14 branch of spin-kickstarts. We are starting the final freeze now, so only serious problems should be fixed now in that branch. And we need to give releng a heads up if we do that. New development should continue in the master branch. The nightly composes still hadn't been built, but releng wanted to get the spin-kickstarts package rebuild in and doing the branch was part of that process. The package will be rebuilt shortly.
