i think the reason is you need to be involved in both worlds, FOSS and
microelectronics to get the spin continously improved with fresh tools
and ideas - not just the build/engineering work to make it work

i pretty sure we all would be happy to have a new maintainer who is
involved in the microcontroler and electronics open source eco system to
make FEL great again ;)
