The code looks good to me and my quick test ran fine. John Hodrien also
confirmed on #sssd that the functionality worked as he expected.

So far I will only push to master. John, please holler if you'd like the
patch in sssd-1-9 as well.
Pushed to master and per John's request also to sssd-1-9. I think it's
fine to push to 1.9 as well as technically it's not a new feature, just
a new extension of an existin one.
