April 2013 - Fedora Summer Coding community

Hello all, I am thinking of applying for summer of code and would be interested in implementing the AUR clone. However I have a few questions: (0) Some supposed projects of summer of code come with estimated difficulty levels. How hard/easy would you consider this one ? (1) Would it be alright to use checkinstall for generating the packages after compiling ? (2) Could you provide a rough estimation on how much background knowledge on the package management in fedora is needed ? I am asking this, because I use arch linux, so I know the AUR, but I am not really deep into fedora yet. (3) I am not studying in the US, so my schedule for University and exams might (and surely will) be different from the US defaults - is that a problem? nuocu

MATE Desktop joined with Fedora for GSoC 2013

It is a great pleasure to announce that the MATE project is featuring in GSoC 2013 program with Fedora project. MATE desktop environment, a project forking GNOME 2 code base[1] is joined with the Fedora project and working together for GSoC 2013 in coming summer. Two project ideas has been added to the idea page and interested students can look forward to join with those project by contacting the mentor. Stefano Karapetsas, Lead Developer, is the main point of contact between the Fedora project and the MATE project. We do believe this would be an interesting step to collaborate with other communities. Financial IS for Fedora project

Hi, Although I was sticking in to the Web Hosting Control panel project[0], there were some difficulties to contact the mentor. Since I'm already an ambassador for fedora project I thought about involving in this project[1] and contribute to it contentiously after GSoC. I would like to make a small suggestion, how about using Python instead of PHP for this project? I'll discuss further about this project with Buddhike. Google Melange | Registration deadlines

Hi Buddhike, Greetings. You mentioned on the mailing list about less than 8 days remaining for the application submission deadlines. But the Melange timeline says it starts on the 22nd, Were you referring to something else? Is there any process I'm missing out? Also, are there any deadlines to adding student proposals to the wiki?
