Anaconda Translation&Keyboard Test Day - Thursday 2010-09-16
by He Rui
Greetings Testers,
Anaconda Translation&Keyboard Test Day is coming up tomorrow:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:Current
This day will mainly focus on the translation and keyboard in different
languages during installation. Test cases have been well prepared on the
wiki page with the help of l10n[1] and i18n[2] team, and the steps are
clear for your reference. So if you used to install in your native
language or know a second language besides English, this is an
opportunity to try them out and help discover the issues in this area.
F-14-beta-TC1 images are available for testing in this event, executing
tests in virtual guest is also acceptable if you don't have extra space
in bare metal.
The Test Day will run all day in Freenode IRC #fedora-test-day. See you
there!:)

Without these bugs fixed we can't compose the Fedora 14 Beta Release

should stay on the list, and are getting the attention they need:

FormatCreateError: ('invalid device specification', '/dev/md127p3') ::
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=629719
628239 :: NEW :: anaconda :: Anaconda Maintenance Team :: Fedora 14

If you are the owner of any of these bugs, kindly update the comments
with your feedback as to whether you believe it is a blocker and what
your plans for fixing the bug are.
Do you have an issue you believe should be fixed before the Fedora 14
Beta ships? Please consider the following criteria when escalating an
issue: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_14_Beta_Release_Criteria
John
The command used to generate the list of bugs above is:
$ bugzilla query --blocked=611991 \
--bug_status=NEW,ASSIGNED,NEEDINFO,ON_DEV,MODIFIED,POST,ON_QA,FAILS_QA,PASSES_QA,REOPENED,VERIFIED,RELEASE_PENDING
\
--outputformat="%{bug_id} :: %{bug_status} :: %{component} ::
%{assigned_to} :: %{summary} :: %{url}"
NOTE: It this command doesn't work on Fedora 14.

2010-09-07 systemd Test Day recap
by Adam Williamson
Thanks to everyone who turned out for the systemd Test Day. Here's the
recap.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-09-07_Systemd
The turnout was good, especially given the late re-schedule of the day
(sorry about that!), and it seemed like people did a lot of good
testing.
Here's the list of bugs exposed by the Test Day:
630914 NEW - Single user mode reported as "unknown"
631160 NEW - kdm is (re)started just before shutdown???
631588 NEW - KDE couldn't shutdown
631590 NEW - I have a different prompt in single mode
631592 NEW - halt command leaves display at a black screen
624149 ASSIGNED - systemd's shutdown command should follow traditional semantics
627014 ASSIGNED - systemd provided telinit does not work as advertised
630935 MODIFIED - shutdown from init 1 starts default during shutdown process
630915 CLOSED DUPLICATE - Stopping rpcbind (via systemctl): /etc/init.d/killall: line 16: 1654 Terminated /etc/init.d/$subsys stop
631584 CLOSED DUPLICATE - getty and firstboot running on the same virtual console tty
As you can see, we've already made a start on triaging and fixing the
bugs. FESCo is also discussing the final decision on whether to go ahead
with systemd for Fedora 14 in a trac ticket:
https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/461
Thanks again for all the testing, everyone. Of course, further testing
is still useful even though the event is officially over - you can still
follow the instructions on the page and contribute your results, and bug
reports. Thanks!

Preupgrade Test Day 2010-09-02 Recap
by He Rui
Greetings,
Many thanks for the ones who attended this test day, though we don't
have much attendance, the general tests for preupgrade have been nicely
covered with its bugs filed and verified.
The common issue testers encountered during preupgrade has been
identified to be an anaconda bug:
624971 CLOSED NEXTRELEASE - Kernel argument with "UUID=" is not honored
629245 DUPLICATE OF 624971 - install,img saved in /boot/upgrade/ but
searched in /boot/images
Preupgrade bugs include:
629738 NEW - preupgrade ignores --help/--version
629745 NEW - preupgrade exit status should reflect failure
629814 NEW - preupgrade does not account for transaction size when
computing if enough disk space is available
629890 NEW - Allow automatic restart
592345 ASSIGNED - preupgrade-1.1.6-1.fc12 adds extra spaces to
grub.conf, results in failed upgrade
If you are interested, a detailed result can be found at the test day
page[1].

Systemd Test Day on Tuesday 2010/09/07
by Adam Williamson
This week's Test Day[1], which will take place on Tuesday 2010/09/07
rather than the more usual Thursday, is on systemd, so it's a very
important one! It will also serve at least two functions: as usual, the
testing will help us to improve the code so that if it does go into the
final Fedora 14 release it will work as well as possible, but the Fedora
steering committee will also be using the results of the Test Day to
help inform their final decision as to whether to go ahead with systemd
for the Beta and final release, or whether to revert to upstart. So
there's a lot riding on this Test Day. As usual, the Test Day will run
in #fedora-test-day on Freenode IRC - see
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_use_IRC if you're not sure how to
use IRC.
As usual, we've tried to make it as easy as possible to participate.
There's full testing instructions on the Test Day wiki page, and you can
contribute some helpful testing just by running a nightly live image[2]
and making sure it boots correctly. Of course, the more testing you can
contribute the better, and there are lots of tests documented on the
page for those who have the time and the ability to install a copy of
Fedora 14 for testing. We also welcome freeform testing of systemd
during the Test Day - it will be very helpful for people simply to
configure a test Fedora 14 installation with the configuration you'd
typically use, and make sure systemd handles starting the system
properly.
Lennart and myself will be around as much as we can during the Test Day
to help out and follow up on your results. We're both in European time
zones at present. Lennart's IRC nick is 'mezcalero', and I'm adamw.
Please do come along and help us test out this important new component -
it's really important that we get as much testing done as possible.
Thanks!
