Fedora 17 Alpha RC1 is not released. Definitely, absolutely not.
by Adam Williamson
Some of you who are just too darn nosy for your own business may have
noticed a directory called 17-Alpha.RC1/ here:
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/
Now, if you're some kind of trouble-making, commie, tin foil hatted
conspiracist, you might even think that this might be Fedora 17 Alpha
RC1.
This is both laughably naive and treasonous! Purge such thoughts from
your mind immediately. Now. I'm warning you. My friends at Google will
let me know if you haven't.
Any images you may find if you were to take the extremely inadvisable,
and indeed criminally indictable, step of entering the above directory
are certainly not some kind of Alpha RC1 images which turn out to
contain a serious bug[1] that was discovered part-way through the
compose process, but are otherwise mostly installable and testable. No.
They're full of lead, mercury, plutonium and other highly toxic
substances. Don't touch them - you'll die in agony right after we arrest
you. Really. It's for your own good.
In a move that is *entirely* coincidental to all of the above, it just
so happens that the release engineering team will soon be composing some
builds that will be named Fedora 17 Alpha RC2. For entirely legitimate
reasons which are certainly not at all to do with anything mentioned
above, but which I can't tell you about for reasons of security.
Ahem.
These images will likely show up in a directory called
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/17-Alpha.RC2/ when they're
done, but if you know what's good for you, you won't go sticking your
grubby little fingers in it until we tell you to.

Proven tester status
by Adam Williamson
Just wanted to make note of the current status of proven testers. As
decided by FESCo late last year, proven tester feedback now has exactly
the same status as non-proven tester feedback, effectively rendering it
pointless to be a proven tester.
I have added a note about this to the proven tester page:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Proven_tester
As noted there, and as discussed at meetings and with FESCo, I'm hopeful
we'll be able to make use of proven tester status again once Bodhi 2.0
hits. Therefore I don't think we should take down all the documentation,
kill the group, or stop accepting membership requests. But do be aware
that, at present, proven tester status is basically meaningless.
Of course, there'll be lots of discussion at QA meetings and FESCo
meetings before we decide whether and how to 'reactivate' the group.
Thanks all!

Fedora 17 Alpha Test Compose 2 (TC2) Available Now!
by Andre Robatino
**IMPORTANT**: There were different versions of the TC2 install and live
images which were overwritten prior to this announcement. I also briefly
posted delta ISOs for some of these old images. Please make sure that
the images you are using correspond to the currently posted checksum files.
As per the Fedora 17 schedule [1], Fedora 17 Alpha Test Compose 2 (TC2)
is now available for testing. Content information, including changes,
can be found at https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/5054 . Please
see the following pages for download links (including delta ISOs) and
testing instructions. Normally dl.fedoraproject.org should provide the
fastest download, but download-ib01.fedoraproject.org is available as a
mirror (with an approximately 1 hour lag) in case of trouble. To use it,
just replace "dl" with "download-ib01" in the download URL.
Note that serverbeach1 is now just an alias for dl, not a separate machine.

Ideally, all Alpha priority test cases for Installation [2], Base [3],
and Desktop [4] should pass in order to meet the Alpha Release Criteria

Announcing 389 Directory Server version 1.2.10 Release Candidate 1 Testing
by Rich Megginson
The 389 Project team is pleased to announce the release of
389-ds-base-1.2.10.rc1. No new features were added between alpha 8 and
rc1, just many bug fixes. There are also 389-adminutil, 389-admin, and
389-dsgw packages in Testing.
NEW: EL6 support
Beginning with RHEL 6.2, the 389-ds-base package is included in the base
OS. Therefore, the 389-ds-base package can no longer be provided via
EPEL, due to RHEL/EPEL packaging restrictions.
However, the 389 Project will still make the full 389-ds-base package
available via http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/rmeggins/389-ds-base.
See http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Download for more information.
NEW: Issue Tracking System
We have moved our ticket tracking system from the Red Hat Bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=389 to our Fedora
Hosted Trac https://fedorahosted.org/389. All of the old 389 bugs have
been copied to Trac. All new bugs, feature requests, and tasks should be
entered in Trac
NEW: Plugin Authors
WARNING: Plugins should be made transaction aware so that they can be
called from within a backend pre/post transaction plugin. Otherwise,
attempting to perform an internal operation will cause a deadlock. See
