FC6pre Install Report (mostly OK)
by G.Wolfe Woodbury
I downloaded the torrent of FC6pre for i386 and installed it on my old
Dell OptiPlex GX1 (work2) [work1's mobo died in a power outage]
Install went smoothly from CDs, firstboot hung up as noted elsewhere with
being unable to type into various fields. Soundcard Detection will not
run. The second run of firstboot (after a reboot) worked ok.
Rawhide updates over the last two days have worked well.
work2 spec: Pentium II (Dechutes) @400MHz ATI 3D Rage Pro video,

Unicode <ctrl+shift+code> input in X broken
by François Kooman
It used to be possible, at least in X, to for example get a Eurosign by
using the key combination ctrl+shift 20AC. This is no longer possible,
is this by design or a bug? And if it's a bug, to app should I report
it?
OS: Fedora Core 6 Pre Release (installed a few days ago) with all
updates to current rawhide.

Urgent: Upgrading FC5 to test4, still no go.
by Gilboa Davara
Hello all,
This is rather urgent, as FC6 is about to be released.
Yesterday tried to upgrade a fully working copy of FC5 (with separate
/boot marked as noauto,defaults).
Anaconda didn't mount boot (NONBUG according to BZ#208093 [1]) which
was partially fixed - Anaconda disabled the grub "update" option until
I manually mounted the /boot partition. Good. (Q: wouldn't be better
if Anaconda displayed a message saying: "boot marked noauto; didn't
mount it; cannot update existing grub configuration; manually mount
it?")
The installation itself was rather event-less, and finished just fine.
However, when I tried booting my shiny new FC6, I got the dreaded:
"GRUB GRUB GRUB ...." and had to reboot the test4 ISO in rescue mode
and fix the grub configuration (grub, root (hd0,0), setup (hd0),
quit).
The machine seems to be working just fine now.
Upgrade log attached.
BZ#208093 [1] updated.

Pre FC6 Rescue still can't find CDROM on P965 chip core duo
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
Which has the same hardware hack to access IDE that the
MSI motherboard I previously reported on did.
Who will be the first after Microsoft to support loading
on these new motherboards?

I even installed a pci network card and try to use it to connect with no success. Please help/advice as the actions to take and get back to testing.

repo madness
by Tom Horsley
Is the createrepo being used to update the development repos hosed?
I submitted this bug this weekend:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=208778
Today, it was working for a while and I got some stuff installed, then
after rebooting to get new kernel tested (sometime after 7pm eastern)
I couldn't find anything in extras again.
Examining the primary.xml.gz file in the yum cache shows it really doesn't
list lots of the things I can see in the directory when browsing it
with a web browser.
Also the RepoView pages in the repodata subdir says there are 3000 some
odd packages in the repo, but again the primary.xml.gz file says more like
1000 packages.
Why do the repo contents keep coming and going? (Are they being hosted
on FC6? :-)

FC6-pre dies with 8 minutes to finish - inn hung
by Jim Cornette
Trying to install FC6-pre bombed out in the below ways.
- A GUI install was not possible with a matrox video card. The monitor
went out of range in a severe way.
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G200 (rev 01)
- The text install package selection was out of sync with the group
selections. I got different packages to select when trying to customize
the package selection.
The install almost completed except it hung on installing inn. I don't
recall selecting inn, but it is very hard to distinguish what was
selected when the groups did not match the desired selection.
A bug report was filed during test3 for the GUI problem. The problem
still is there.
I was able to boot the system using my /boot partition on /dev/hda1 from
a working previous installation after the install to boot the new failed
install on /dev/hdb3. I could not login as root or change my root
password even in runlevel 1. I was able to add a new user and set the
new user password. The root account simply had an authentication error.
I had better results with FC6-pre than FC6T3 because I ended up getting
an exception error early in the install attempt.
I'll file a report for the anaconda failure. The menu selections out of
sync with package selection is probably already know,
Jim

can anyone use fc6-pre if lvm partition?
by sean darcy
I've messed with the dvd iso for awhile. no luck, I've a
really standard system - intel 945g, 1 sata drive, one dvd.
fc5 works fine.
The only remotely non-standard thing is an lvm volume -
which is not root:
df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use%
Mounted on
/dev/sda5 34064236 10790280 21515644 34% /
/dev/sda1 256666 44709 198705 19% /boot
tmpfs 507172 0 507172 0% /dev/shm
/dev/mapper/video--vol-video
253467728 132785556 120682172 53% /video
fc6-pre starts up, asks for keyboard, then fails just after
it starts looking for prio installs.
Does it work for anyone else?
