Anaconda issues with LVM when using an entire disk as a LVM physical partition
by Adam Gibson
I created a second disk /dev/hdb as an LVM partition manually in FC4.
There are no partitions like /dev/hdb0, etc. /dev/hdb is the partition.
When Anaconda first starts up it says that the disk is not initialized
and asks if you want to initialize it(which would have hosed my LVM on
that disk).
As long as you answer no to the initialization when you get to disk
druid, it does show the LVM partition but you can not do anything with it.
I am ok that it can not edit it because it does not expect the entire
disk to be a partition, but the scary part was when it said the disk was
uninitialized and asked to initialize it. Someone might accidentally
say yes to that not realizing that it is already initialized in a sense
that the entire disk is an LVM partition.

Dual Layer DVD burning with K3b
by Ernest L. Williams Jr.
Hi All,
I would like to make a DVD data disk with more than 5 GB.
K3b only shows 4.4 GB maximum. What is the magic around this?
I indeed have a HP dvd740 dual-layer DVD burner with dual layer blank
DVD+R media.
Help.
Thanks,
Ernesto

snd_es18xx MIA
by Wayne Johnson
I just upgraded to FC5 and can't seem to get my ESS1896 card to work again. Seems the snd_es18xx driver is missing. Was this intentional? Anyway I can get it?
Thanks.

Dag got burglarized!
by thomas cameron
I just saw on Nahant-list that Dag Wieers, one of the titans in the
Linux world and the maintainer of an absolutely amazing group of
repositories for various Linux distributions, got burglarized
yesterday. He lost three laptops including his primary one. Anyone who
uses a laptop for their "daily driver" knows how catastrophic that would be.
He has not been tooting his own horn about it, just a real quiet posting
on his web site. I have already donated and I would strongly encourage
anyone who has some extra cash to shoot it Dag's way. Check out
http://dag.wieers.com/personal/wishlist.php for details on how to
contribute via PayPal.

GPG signed emails
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
I've noticed in the last couple of days that anything gpg signed has
been killing Evolution - basically, I highlight the email to read it and
it just hangs and needs to be killed via system monitor.
Any ideas in tracing this one back?

compile a kernel to include a module
by Mihamina Rakotomandimby
Hi,
I have to copile my own kernel in order to have some options
hard-included (not as modules) and some to modules to be activated.
I do want to make it "the fedora way" (not the generic method) by using
a src.rpm.
I thus need to edit the kernel compilation configuration file in order
to include my stuff.
What tutorial do you recommend me? I already tried in the old times and
as far as I remember, the command line to launch is not a simple
"rpmbuild": I have to specify the target architecture and some things.
Would you have a link to recommend?
Thank you.
