Weird desktop wide application focusing/cursor problem
by Dennis Jacobfeuerborn
Hi,
Since I fully resynced with yesterdays rawhide I now regulary lose the
cursor/ability to type in *any* application on the desktop. I can still
focus a window (ie the title bar changes it's color) but I cannot type
anything in the terminal or in gedit. Also when focusing a window I don't
get any cursor (in gedit it completely disappears, in the terminal the
cursor is displayed as "unfocused" i.e. as an unfilled rectangle). Also the
menus can be selected and get highlighted but the actual menu popup doesn't
appear. Opera is affected too so this doesn't seem to be limited to gtk2 apps.
Risizing a window fixes the problem until it reappears a minute later.
Right now I don't even now what component to file a bug under because I
have no idea what could cause such a behavior. My best guess would be
metacity though.
These are the package versions I have installed right now:
metacity-2.15.34-1.fc6
gtk2-2.10.2-3.fc6
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.1.1-30.fc6
kernel-2.6.17-1.2586.fc6

Does cdrdao work as normal user?
by Andre Robatino
For some strange reason, cdrdao in FC5 can only write as root - see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=191684
But when I download cdrdao-1.2.1.tar.bz2 from cdrdao.sourceforge.net and
compile in the simplest possible way (".configure" and "make"), the
resulting cdrdao executable works fine as an ordinary user. So I'm
guessing the FC5 version was compiled wrong, and that it's nothing
deeper than that. Can someone running FC6t2 please check whether cdrdao
works for writing as an ordinary user? Thanks.

Preferred Applications > Mail Reader setting for Thunderbird is incorrect
by Gerry Tool
The System > Preferences > More Preferences > Preferred Applications >
Mail Reader setting for the Thunderbird Mail choice sets the command to
"thunderbird mailto:%s" where it should be "thunderbird %s", the same as
the other choices for evolution and kmail. To get a mailto: link in a
web page to set the address in thunderbird correctly, one has to use the
Custom setting and remove the mailto: part of the command.
This is true in both FC5 and FC6T2. What component should I file a bug
against?
Thanks.

yum broken in newest rawhide?
by Caerie Houchins
Is anyone else having problems with yum after the newest rawhide? Mine is
bombing out immediately upon execution. I reverted to yum in FC5 and it
worked again correctly. This seems to only happen after todays build. Just
wanted to get a feel for things here before filing a bug report.
The error I am receiving is :

Missing floppy and scsi dvd reader in FC6test2
by David Bentley
I have just realised that neither the floppy drive or the dvd-rom that I installed FC6test2 from are visible in the computer folder on the desktop.
Both are shown in the hardware browser though.
Is it just me or is anyone else seeing problems similar to this.
Note
Just checked my FC5 box and notice that the floppy is also missing.

revert kdebase-3.5.4-0.4.fc5 (konq freezing)
by Neal Becker
This is on x86_64 fc5. I am seeing (apparently at random) freezing of konq.
After saying "blah blah contacted, waiting for reply" it freezes. It won't
even redraw it's window. After long time, it finally updates.
AFAIK, this could be related to update of kdebase to 3.5.4-0.4.fc5.
Is it possible to try reverting to older version?
If anyone else can confirm this, this update should be reverted. This is a
serious regression of a vital component.

/ in my Trash
by Thomas J. Baker
Running the latest rawhide, somehow my user account has / in the
Nautilus Trash. I obviously can't empty my trash. Any idea how to remove
it? I tried removing .nautilus and my .Trash file is empty.
Thanks,
tjb

Fedora Core 5 Test Update: mkinitrd-5.0.32-2
by David Cantrell
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2006-945
2006-08-30
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Product : Fedora Core 5
Name : mkinitrd
Version : 5.0.32
Release : 2
Summary : Creates an initial ramdisk image for preloading modules.
Description :
Mkinitrd creates filesystem images for use as initial ramdisk (initrd)
images. These ramdisk images are often used to preload the block
device modules (SCSI or RAID) needed to access the root filesystem.
In other words, generic kernels can be built without drivers for any
SCSI adapters which load the SCSI driver as a module. Since the
kernel needs to read those modules, but in this case it isn't able to
address the SCSI adapter, an initial ramdisk is used. The initial
ramdisk is loaded by the operating system loader (normally LILO) and
is available to the kernel as soon as the ramdisk is loaded. The
ramdisk image loads the proper SCSI adapter and allows the kernel to
mount the root filesystem. The mkinitrd program creates such a
ramdisk using information found in the /etc/modules.conf file.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
mkinitrd needed rebuilding against parted-1.7.1.
