preupgrade - how it works?
by Adam Pribyl
Just for my understanding how preupgrade works
1. does it download also packages from third party repositories, if
repository is configured and used in the system, to do upgrade?
2. when doing upgrade later in version lifecycle (e.g. upgrading from
F8->F9 at time when F10 is already released) is it downloading latest
anaconda stage and packages from F9 updates (no update (=downloading of
+-1GB of updates) is needed after upgrade)?
If both is Yes, that this is really the best upgrade method ever invented
(so far :).
Thanks

preupgrade from F7 to F8 freeze at "running /sbin/loader"
by Kazutoshi Morioka
Hi, all.
I tried to upgrade from F7 to F8 with preupgrade-0.9.2-1.fc7.i386.
The packages were downloaded, grub.conf was edited.
But after I reboot and choose "Upgrade to Fedora 8 (Werewolf)", it was frozen
at a message "running /sbin/loader".
How can I collect debug-infos?

Closing Firefox windows sometimes crashes the application
by Rodd Clarkson
I've noticed with the last few versions of firefox that closing one of
the open windows can result in all windows closing, and when you restart
you get asked if you want to restore the last session.
Anyone else seeing this?
I don't have much more than this at the moment.

RE:After updates, won't boot past the word "grub" with F9
by Nathaniel Daw
I had the same problem on an Apr 26 update with both of my i386 rawhide
systems, which I also resolved with a rescue disk boot and grub
reinstall. This seems like a pretty scary bug just pre-release, though I
also don't know exactly what to blame.
Initially I thought it was something quirky on one of the systems (which
has two hard drives, which seem to have swapped between sda and sdb with
the upgrade to F9, which I thought might have confused grub), but then
it happened on my other system as well, which has a much more
straightforward configuration.
The yum log from one of the offending updates is below: the only obvious
culprit I see is the kernel upgrade -- is there any way that could mess
up grub? Clearly it touches grub.conf but that seemed fine.

On which components reports some issues?
by Alain PORTAL
Hi,
The following issues happen with "Fedora 9 Preview x86_64 Live KDE" installed
and updated.
1. When trying to enter a new bug in bugzilla, konqueror freeze after
choosing "Fedora" product. Which is the related component for konqueror?
2. After installing a new package with yum, the menu isn't updated.
To get the new menu entry, I need to session logout/login.
3. When I session logout, the keyboard become "unavailable" and I need to
restart X server. Is this a X server issue?
Regards,
Alain

Preupgrade question
by Derek Cramer
Hi.
Is preupgrade supposed to honour your extant yum settings? I'm trying it out
on an F-8 machine going to rawhide. So far, it is working fine, but it seems
to be using random mirrors for downloading, rather than the mirrors I have
specified in my yum repo files (failovermethod=priority is set). Using yum
directly is fine.
If preupgrade uses its own mirrorlist, is there a way to force it to use a
particular mirror?

preupdate - did nothing
by Neal Becker
I just tried preupdate bzr 110. It downloaded everything, asked whether to
reboot. I hit the reboot - but there was no grub entry other than the
standard fedora boot.
