Atheros 9821 Chipset
by Partha Bagchi
Hi,
I just got a new laptop (Sony Viao VGN-FW139E). It has an Atheros 9821
wireless card. I just read on the FedoraForum that Atheros has released
a Linux driver for this chip and it has made it to the Linux kernel (no
firmware required). Any idea when it will be available in the Fedora kernel?
Thanks in advance!

Linrad on 64 bit Fedora 9
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
After some mucking around I discovered the secret ingredient to
getting xlinrad to compile to a functioning program. The 32
bit libasound development files must be manually installed from
a 386 Fedora distribution. If this is missing, xlinrad will compile
WITHOUT FATAL ERROR MESSAGES into a program that almost
works but stops taking input after a while.
FYI the IDT sound chips on some ECS motherboards can actually
sample at 192kHz --really-- and can receive wwvb at 60 kHz
Unlike Audigy which pretends to sample at 192 but doesn't.

Problem running OOo downloaded from openoffice.org
by Joe Smith
Installing the OO.org 2.4 packages on F9 beta, I get this message when
starting:
$ /opt/OOH680_m12/program/soffice
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "gnomebreakpad":
/opt/OOH680_m12/program/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not
found (required by /usr/lib/bug-buddy/libbreakpad.so.0)
OOo then starts and seems to run ok, but it will not run from a desktop
launcher using that same command, I presume because bug-buddy can't be
started.
I don't know what the Fedora policy is here: does it matter at this
point whether a third-party package isn't starting cleanly? Nor do I
understand the message well enough to decide who to report it to.
It seems that OOo uses it's own libstdc++ which is not compatible with
gnomebreakpad, but I've not found a way to have gnomebreakpad look
elsewhere for that library.
Any suggestions if/where to file a report, and/or how to workaround the
problem?

VMWare and Desktop Effects

Things I learned today: Trying to enable desktop effects when running
F10 in VMWare workstation causes the X server to crash and restart.

updated to KDE 4.1 (Fedora 9 x86_64 on Acer TravelMate 6291 Laptop)
by yunus
Hi,
While in GNOME session, I updated to KDE 4.1 with the following
commands :
#yum update
#yum --enablerepo=update-testing groupupdate 'KDE'
I then tried to login to KDE session to see how KDE 4.1 look likes.
When I succeded to login to KDE session, I got this window message on
the right corner of the KDE Desktop that says:
------------------------------------------------------------------
phonon
The audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog) does not work.
Falling back to HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog).
------------------------------------------------------------------
I tried to play some music. It still works

Updates?
by Jim Bevier
Just wondering why I have not seen any updates this week? Are all the bugs
fixed :-)? Distribution broke? Will things be back to normal soon?
