Test Day shepherding SOP draft is up
by Adam Williamson
Hi, guys. jlaska and I concocted a little scheme to create an SOP for
running a Test Day, that will help ensure consistency in how Test Days
are run and also hopefully make it easier for people besides James and
myself to run them :). The current draft of this SOP is available here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Adamwill/Draft_test_day_SOP
it's not quite complete yet, there's a few bits I'd like to maybe refine
a little, but it's pretty much all there as far as I can see. So,
throwing it out there for review: anyone see problems or possible
improvements?
And, as noted, this will be on tomorrow's meeting agenda, so you can
talk about it there too. Just imagine the fun!
Thanks gang.

* topic - Kernel Triage - Discuss the feedback from Chuck Ebbert on
kernel triage.
Chuck asked one specific question in his email: If there might be a
different way to indicate a bug's been triaged rather than simply
setting it to ASSIGNED?
During the meeting on some of the available options were discussed, none
were agreed upon. We will continue this in the mailing list.
- this topic is also related to anaconda, and with members of the
anaconda team present at the meeting we took the opportunity to discuss
how we can better assist them.
alindebe provided information on the anaconda team's workflow here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda/AnacondaBugWorkflow
and requested that triagers wanting to help with anaconda learn this
work flow and work within it. Also see:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda/BugReporting
Also a request that triagers communicate and confirm with the anaconda
team on #anaconda before setting anything to assigned.
BugZappers will follow these instructions if they triage anaconda bugs.
Thank you alindebe, denise and pjones for attending.
* topic - Component list update for the F12 cycle - Update on status.
This was an action item from last weeks meeting. No discussion during

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Critical_Path_Packages_Proposal
* Action Item - arxs will create a draft of a revised components list
and update on progress next week.

New BugZapper Introduction
by Michael J Gruber
Hi there
I am a mathematician and physicist who started using Linux with
Slackware 1.0. I switched from RedHat to Fedora Core when FC 1 came out
and have been a mostly happy Fedora user ever since. I also used to work
as a sysadmin (small heterogeneous network with SuSe, AIX and Windoze).
I'm a bugzilla.rh reporter at times, "small scale" Mozilla contributor
and extension writer, git contributor. I guess that means I've had some
exposure to C, shell, XUL, JS, though I prefer python for current work
projects. After having lived in the US for 3.5 years I feel reasonably
comfortable working on documentation in English as well as German, my
native language. I tend to use British spelling now but can be told
otherwise :)
I'm attending FUDcon Berlin to see how I can better contribute to
Fedora. Applying for the BugZapper group is one more step in that direction.
Cheers,
Michael

dvd eject button not working in F11
by Dennis Jacobfeuerborn
Hi,
I switched from F10 i386 to F11 x86_64 and now cds/dvds are no longer
ejected when I press the eject button of the drive. Ejecting using the
context menu still works though.
What package should I file this bug for?

Dennis

Unsigned rawhide packages
by Emmanuel Galanos
Hello,
I'm a bit behind on rawhide due to travel, but trying to
yum install gconf-editor I get:
Package gconf-editor-2.26.0-2.fc12.i586.rpm is not signed
Is there a way we can prevent unsigned packages from hitting
mirrors ?

Another BugZapper Introduction
by Heherson Pagcaliwagan
Hi Everyone!
I'm a full-time sysadmin for a small Philippine engineering
consultancy firm using a heterogenous network of Linux and Windows.
Most of my office hours are used troubleshooting Windows machines (if
only AutoCAD works on Linux) so I need the practice. Joining
BugZappers is my way of learning more about Linux and hopefully,
contributing back to the community.
In terms of Linux experience, my first Linux is Red Hat 9 though I
only started to understand Linux starting Fedora 7 (sysadmin course).
Languages I'm exposed to: C/++, bash, python, php, ruby, and German.
Alongside being an Ambassador, I'm also in FreeMedia.

Heherson Pagcaliwagan

I thought the idea of Rawhide was to chew on new and/or changed
functionality in Linux. Does the new kernel or library affect the apps I
write?
What about apps I use, such as Gnuradio and linrad?
I can't do this when Rawhide is un-loadable.

Rawhide is pretty hosed right now
by Jonathan Kamens
It appears that there was a gcc bug in rawhide for long enough to hose
quite a few packages when they got recompiled. For example: firefox
crashes <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506952> (can be
fixed by downgrading to older xulrunner), GIMP hangs when you try to use
the dodge / burn tool
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=507170>, the GIMP
help-browser plugin crashes
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=507168>, the applet icon
for gnome-volume-control-applet is corrupt
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=507120>, the applet icon
for the system-config-printer applet is messed up
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=507119>, vino was crashing
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=505967> (although this
particular problem seems to be fixed in newest rawhide package),
/usr/lib/sa/sadc is crashing
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=505670>.
In addition, the rawhide kernel is reporting tons of "list_add
corruption" call traces in the dmesg output
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=507161>, and as far as I
can tell this may actually be causing some applications to malfunction
-- I saw Picasa, for example, behaving in weird ways that seemed to stop
happening when I switched to an older kernel without this problem.
The links above are to all the tickets I and others have filed in
bugzilla about these issues. But there are two serious issues about
which I haven't filed tickets because I'm unsure how to categorize them:
1. Even when I'm not actually doing anything on my system that should
be causing significant load, the load average hovers between
around 1.5 and 2.5. Until recently, when I wasn't doing anything
actively, the load average stuck pretty close to 0, where it
should be.
2. Audio is pretty hosed. First, none of the devices in /dev/snd
were owned by me even though I'm logged in on the console, so I
couldn't get any audio at all. I changed them to be owned by me,
but then I had to do all sorts of fiddling with alsamixer -c0 just
to get sound to come out of xmms. It's not a good scene.
Just giving people a heads up that upgrading to rawhide right now seems
a bit risky. If you have any advice for me on how to mitigate any of
these issues, I'm all ears.
Thanks,
jik

Unhandled exception on finding storage devices
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
Any idea when this previously reported Rawhide problem will be fixed?
The gp-ep45-ud3p motherboard is at least six months old.
Ubuntu and OpenSUSE install on this motherboard without
problems as well as Fedora 11 Release.
