Note on 'systemd-216-9'
by Adam Williamson
An update has been submitted for systemd today:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/kmod-18-4.fc21,systemd-216-9.fc21
with a fairly short description. I wanted to flag up that, in fact,
systemd-216-9 is a major change from systemd-216-8 and is not really
systemd 216 at all.
systemd-216-8 (and 216-1 through 216-5) and earlier) was more or less
identical to upstream systemd-stable 216:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd-stable/log/?h=v216-stable .
systemd "216-9" is not built from 216 at all, it is in fact systemd-217
with some particular changes (presumably intended to be the most
disruptive ones) reverted. When I dropped build-related files and
directories and documentation from the trees, did a context-free
recursive diff, and filtered out the metadata from the diff, it still
worked out at >7,000 lines worth of additions and removals between the
underlying code of 'systemd-216-8' and 'systemd-216-9'. This is a lot of
change to land between Beta and Final.
Testers, please take care to test the update thoroughly, despite the
small bump and small description it is a major change to the package.

Systemd can not start rtkit-daemon, ntpd, cups with PrivateTmp=yes.
by Francis SOUYRI
Hello,
I am running a Fedora 3.16.6-203.fc20.x86_64, after some updates
(do not know what updates) now systemd can not start rtkit-daemon, ntpd,
cups when PrivateTmp=yes.
I see a same problem when /var/tmp is a symlink of /tmp or when /tmp is
a tmpfs but this is not my case.
# df -k /tmp /var/tmp
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/vgroot-lvtmp 4022592 434892 3363652 12% /tmp
/dev/mapper/vgroot-lvvar 4022592 1862340 1936204 50% /var
# ls -ld /var/tmp /tmp
drwxrwxrwt. 89 root root 53248 Nov 3 12:01 /tmp
drwxrwxrwt. 16 root root 12288 Nov 3 12:00 /var/tmp
l have some other systems the a 32 bits FC20 without this problem.
I set PrivateTmp=no systemd work fine, but this is only a bypass.
Best regards.
Francis

systemd-216-8.fc21
------------------
* Mon Nov 03 2014 Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek <zbyszek(a)in.waw.pl> - 216-8
- Revert to 216-5 per request from QA.
- Remove start and shutdown timeouts (#1154768).
* Sun Nov 02 2014 Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek <zbyszek(a)in.waw.pl> - 216-7
- Drop PackageKit.service from presets (#1154126)
- Change libgudev1 to only require systemd-libs (#727499), there's
no need to require full systemd stack.
- Pull more changes from upstream, including post-217 bugfixes. This
is now a bastard mix of systemd-216 and systemd-217, with some of
the important changes in systemd 217 still reverted:
readahead removal, timedatectl change, fq_codel as default,
job timeouts for init and poweroff, multi-seat-x removal,
coredumps from watchdog timeouts.
- /dev/disk/by-path changes are pulled from upstream (#1157847)
- boot and shutdown timeouts are disabled (#1154768, #1159641)
- timers.target is not scheduled before basic.target (#1158206)
- Obsolete Finnish keymap is dropped (#1151958)
- StartTimeout* options are ignored to avoid warnings.

Introduction
by M. Miles Clark
Hi All -
I've been running Fedora for a while and decided to install the F21
alpha on my new laptop. It's pretty good, but there are a few problems,
so I thought I'd see what I could do to help out with testing.
I'm primarily a developer, but I also have some system administration
experience. I've been a user of Linux for 15 years or so, but haven't
made the jump to contributor until now.
I'm reading through http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Join to see where I
can be most useful, but if anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear
them.
Thanks,
Miles

Fedora 21 installation: a suggestion
by Gene Czarcinski
Fedora 21 has introduced a new/different approach to packaging of the
distribution software: "productized" collections of packages which are
installed via a Live Install. At first I was not sure I liked the
approach but have come around to liking it a lot.
And then there is Fedora-Server-netinst. This netinstall is the only
vehicle which gives the user complete control over package selection
(especially when using kickstart). But, it is labeled "Fedora Server"??
Suggestion: As far as I can tell, it would not cost that much to do a
"special" build and only harvest boot.iso to create
Fedora-Netinst-<whatever>.iso
Just a suggestion.

* A new version of the RSSyl plugin, completely redesigned and rewritten.
* The results of TAB address completion in the Compose window have improved ordering.
* Due to popular demand, use of the Up key in the message body in the Compose window stops at the top of the message body and does not continue up to the header fields. This reverts the behaviour introduced in version 3.10.0.
* In the Compose window, when navigating with the arrow keys, selecting, and thus modifying, the Account selector is now prevented.
* In the Compose window, a mnemonic (s) has been added to the Subject line.
* The Queue folder is highlighted if there are messages in its sub-folders and the tree is collapsed.
* When sorting messages by 'thread date', clicking the 'Date' column header will now toggle between ascending/descending and will not switch to 'date' sorting.
* A new QuickSearch filter has been added that searches a header's content only. H S : messages which contain S in the value of any header.
* A Reply-To field has been added to the main Template configuration.
* The menubar can now be hidden, default hotkey: F12.
* Fancy plugin: A user-controlled stylesheet can now be used.
* Python plugin: Add flag attributes to MessageInfo object.
* Python plugin: Make 'account' property of ComposeWindow read/write.
* Libravatar plugin: a network timeout option has been added.
* Use 'gnutls_priority' hidden account preference for POP3 and STARTTLS connections, in addition to SMTP.
* RSSyl plugin: Enable use of .netrc to store network credentials.
* The tbird2claws.py script, for converting a Thunderbird mailbox to a Claws Mail mailbox, now handles sub-directory recursion.
* Updated translations
* Various Bugfixes
New in 3.10.1:
* Add an account preference to allow automatically accepting unknown and changed SSL certificates, if they're valid (that is, if the root CA is trusted by the distro).
* RFE 3196, 'When changing quicksearch Search Type, set focus to search input box'
* PGP/Core plugin: Generate 2048 bit RSA keys.
* Major code cleanup.
* Extended claws-mail.desktop with Compose and Receive actions.
* Updated Bulgarian, Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Dutch, Esperanto, Finnish, French, German,Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Lithuanian, Slovak, Spanish, and Swedish translations.
* Bug fixes
New in 3.10.0:
* Complete SSL certificate chains are now saved, and if built with Libetpan 1.4.1, the IMAP SSL connection's certificate chain is made available. Both of these allow correct certificate verification instead of a bogus 'No certificate issuer found' status.
* Auto-configuration of account email servers, based on SRV records, is now possible. (GLib >= 2.22 is required.)
* Added a preference to avoid automatically drafting emails that are to be sent encrypted, (Configuration/Preferences/Compose/Writing).
* Messages saved as Drafts are now saved as New, highlighting the Drafts folder, in order to draw the attention to unfinished mails there.
* It is now possible to add a 'Replace signature' button to the Compose window toolbar.
* Quotation wrapping and undo/redo in the Compose window has been improved.
* 'Reply to all' now excludes your own address.
* The 'Generate X-Mailer header' option has been renamed 'Add user agent header' and applies to both X-Mailer and X-Newsreader headers.
* Added hidden preferences, 'address_search_wildcard' and 'folder_search_wildcard', to choose between matching from start of the folder name/address or any part of the name. (Activating these options restores the previous behaviour.)
* Added hidden preference 'enable_avatars' to control the internal capture/render process, and which allows disabling it by external plugins for example.
* 'Check for new folders' now only updates the folder list, not updating the contents of folders. If needed, it can be followed by 'Check for new messages'
* When using Redirect, the redirecting account's address is used in the SMTP MAIL FROM instead of the original sender's address.
* NEW: Libravatar plugin, which displays avatars from https://www.libravatar.org/
* Added support for an arbitrary number and sources of 'avatars' and images for email senders, and migrated Face and X-Face headers.
* Avatars are now included when printing mails.
* The GPG keyring can now be used as the source for address auto-completion.
* The vCalendar and RSSyl plugins now have an option to disable SSL certificate verification (and check them by default).
* The ClamAV plugin now pops up an error message only once instead of repeatedly
* Updated the man page and the manual.
* Updated Brazilian Portuguese, British English, Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Lithuanian, Slovak, Spanish, and Swedish translations.
* Added Esperanto translation.

Update Information:
* SSLv3 server connections are now disabled by default, in response to the POODLE vulnerability, see https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2014-3566.
* Several PGP/Core plugin improvements
* Updated translations
* Various Bugfixes
* Major code cleanup.
* Extended claws-mail.desktop with Compose and Receive actions.
* Updated Bulgarian, Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Dutch, Esperanto, Finnish, French, German,Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Lithuanian, Slovak, Spanish, and Swedish translations.
* Bug fixes
* Added Esperanto translation.

sudo-1.8.11p2-1.fc21 (FEDORA-2014-14191)
Allows restricted root access for specified users
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
Update to 1.8.11p2
Major upstream changes & fixes:
- when running a command in the background, sudo will now forward SIGINFO to the command
- the passwords in ldap.conf and ldap.secret may now be encoded in base64.
- SELinux role changes are now audited. For sudoedit, we now audit the actual editor being run, instead of just the sudoedit command.
- it is now possible to match an environment variable's value as well as its name using env_keep and env_check
- new files created via sudoedit as a non-root user now have the proper group id
- sudoedit now works correctly in conjunction with sudo's SELinux RBAC support
- it is now possible to disable network interface probing in sudo.conf by changing the value of the probe_interfaces setting
- when listing a user's privileges (sudo -l), the sudoers plugin will now prompt for the user's password even if the targetpw, rootpw or runaspw options are set.
- the new use_netgroups sudoers option can be used to explicitly enable or disable netgroups support
- visudo can now export a sudoers file in JSON format using the new -x flag
Distribution specific changes:
- added patch to read ldap.conf more closely to nss_ldap
- require /usr/bin/vi instead of vim-minimal
- include pam.d/system-auth in PAM session phase from pam.d/sudo
- include pam.d/sudo in PAM session phase from pam.d/sudo-i

by Adam Williamson
NOTE: we've just started the meeting, I only just realized I never hit
sent on this email :( Sending it now for any late joiners, and
Posterity.
# Fedora Quality Assurance Meeting
# Date: 2014-11-03
# Time: ** 16:00 UTC **

# Location: #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net
Greetings testers!
It's meeting time again tomorrow! First of all, please note clocks went
back in a lot of countries that observe daylight savings this weekend,
so the UTC meeting time has changed to 16:00 UTC. If your clocks went
back between last week's meeting and this one, that means the meeting is
at the same local time for you. If your clocks didn't change, the
meeting will be one hour later in your local time. You can always use
'date -u' to see the current UTC time.
Thanks to all Beta testers for the great effort! We've signed off on the
Beta, but we have the usual post-release fire drills, so let's check in
on all of that. There's also been a proposal from some folks at the
Go/No-Go meeting to fiddle with the Final schedule, so let's discuss
those ideas. And we should probably check in on any remaining Test Days.
As always, please reply to this mail if you'd like to propose any
additional topics!
== Proposed Agenda Topics ==
1. Fedora 21 Beta: remaining work
* fedup timeout bug - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1159292
* fedup and livecd-tools stable updates
* CommonBugs - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common_F21_bugs
* anything else?
2. Fedora 21 Final schedule
* Move TC1 up?
* Move freeze up?
* Move scheduled release date up?
* None of the above?
3. Test Days
4. Open floor
