Errors starting VM after updating from F43 to F44

After updating from F43 to F44 starting an existing virtual machine in virt-manager fails with the following: Error starting domain GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.error.NameHasNoOwner:Could not activate remote peer'org.freedesktop.machine1':startup job failed Error seems to track to pieces in python3. During a following dnf update some errors were observed from python3 but so far no consequences have shown up.

Sam, Thanks for responding. Some time ago I went looking for Virtualization software. At the time, VirtualBox was the best/easiest (My opinion) available. Sure, they have their problems and restrictions... But... the UI was pretty good and has been getting better. I did NOT do an exhaustive analysis... I just wanted something easy to use/understand... I didn't want to become a SME... VB fit. I had tried others... harder to use, difficult to understand... Difficult to configure... I have a background with Mainframe operating system internals... MVT, VS1, MVS, OS 390, zMVS, zVM, VM was/is my favorite. I wish they gave better access for NON Oracle users... They don' t like the "rc" kernels... I come across some strange bugs... but, nobody to report them to except for a "Community" that's almost a mailing list. I kinda like bleeding edge which is why I like Fedora so much. };-)... You make a GOOD point regarding kernels and compiling though. Have you tried VB? Robert, There is an initramfs for the 6.20 kernel but NONE for the 7.0 kernel. I'll look in the "latest" kernel build log for files affected with the various install commands. There might be a record as to just which /boot/efi parts are affected. As usual, I'll report back here with my findings. Thanks again for responding. George... Hello! I'd like to join the QA team and as described in the Join page I'm introducing myself here :) I like computers, have been using them since I was a child. Between work, games with anti-cheat (sigh) I use also MacOS and Windows, but my daily driver for personal stuff is Linux. Have been with Linux for about 9 months and have tried a few distros, and have been testing for Arch for a while. I have used Fedora and Arch in equal measure and often run them concurrently on the same system. Although I am currently just using Fedora because I just find it fits me a bit better. Every time I build a different system on another distro, Fedora ends up being "the reference build" so that should tell you everything. I have my own Kinoite/Silverblue custom bootc image (depends on what I am in the mood for!), which I maintain on the side, but I have a Fedora KDE installation. I like looking into declarative set ups (have also used NixOS for a while), and infostructure. So when if I don't always use the image I end up reproducing what I have on my Fedora KDE for fun. I have my COPR with tools I use which I packaged. Some of them are mine (just tiny utilities for some automation), some of them are from other people and I have sent PRs with spec files. Not proficient enough in packaging to join the packaging team though :) I have just participated in the kernel test day and filed a bug, my hardware is a bit stubborn and doesn't like kernel 6.19 :p I'd love to contribute to a great distro such as Fedora :)

Sam/Robert, THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING... Sam: Yes, "make install"... Initially I was building a kernel to get VirtualBox working. The VB folks don't want to fool around with release candidates. I use VB in modest amounts for dangerous/scary/testing kinds of things. I'm a big fan of virtualization! Robert: I'm disturbed when you say dependencies missing. I have checked your list and found that some were missing and some didn't have their "devel" stuff installed as well. My question is, "How can they be missing and yet no error messages are presented"? Maybe I'm not looking in the "right" place? That script you sent looks interesting... I may have questions. I always have questions... Also, I think that silent failure of a command is NOT in anyone's best interests. I'm hoping that someone in "developer land" (upstream?) sees this commentary and takes action. Is that too much to hope for? Things like a full file system for example. I'll be testing the above additions to see if they make a difference in the end result... probably a "dnf reinstall '*kernel*'"... and, of course, report back here.
