#82: Update existing dual-boot tests and add to test plan ---------------------------+------------------------------------------------ Reporter: jlaska | Owner: Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Fedora 14 Component: Wiki | Version: Keywords: retrospective | ---------------------------+------------------------------------------------ = problem =
See [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=590661 RHBZ#590661 - GRUB bootloader should have a few seconds delay on a multi- boot setup]
= analysis =
Due to RHBZ #590661, the dual-boot experience was not well understood and tested for the final release. It was discovered late and unclear whether this behavior was critical to Fedora success.
= enhancement recommendation =
Recommend updating existing dual-boot test cases, and create new test as needed, to reflect updated dual-boot release criteria. Also, add tests to the install matrix (depends on ticket#80).
The current tests concern dual-booting windows and Mac. I believe Mac is no longer a primary concern. However, we may wish to add a test for dual- booting Ubuntu or even Fedora.

I'm not an expert of this, so feel free to reassign the task if anyone is interested in dual-boot cases.

I can take it if you like. Note that I happen to have talked to installer team recently about dual-boot with other Linux distros, at present we don't have support for this in the way we do for Windows (obviously you can do it, but anaconda isn't smart about it, you have to set things up manually). Brian Lane is working on it and hoping to have something in place for F14 timeframe, but that's not guaranteed.

I'd like to move this into F15 milestone and link it with the dual-boot test day event. I'm also opening this ticket up for contributions from anyone. Any objections? If so ... feel free to revert the change.

Not being aware of the pre-existing test cases, I drafted a new install- alongside-Windows test case a while back:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Adamwill/Draft_QA_Testcase_install_along...
so we could merge that with the existing one and push it into the matrix. It's probably worth having test cases for Ubuntu and OS X as well, indeed. Let's bump this to F17.

Well, we have an updated Windows dual boot test and it's now in the matrix: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Testcase_dualboot_with_windows . I think we can close this, and file new tickets if we want to add Linux dual boot tests.
