Publican 2.3 is here
by Ruediger Landmann
Hi all;
Publican 2.3 is out today, containing some important bug fixes for
Localization, plus the substantially reworked visual styles that we've
been discussing lately on Publican-list. You can find a summary of all
the changes on Jeff Fearn's fedorapeople page[0], or get more detail
from the very first Publican Release Notes, thanks to Ryan Lerch and
Darrin Mison![1]
Just like last time, it is particularly important for anyone translating
documents or building translated documents to upgrade to the new version
as soon as possible, because of the localization bugs fixed in this
release.
To accommodate the changes in visual styling, a new versions of the
Fedora brand package (2.0) is also available.
To install Publican 2.3 and the updated brand packages on your Fedora 12
or Fedora 13 system, download the packages from Koji [2]
If Publican 2.3 works for you on Fedora, please leave positive karma in
Bodhi so that Publican 2.3 and the brand packages reach the main Fedora
repos sooner.[3] Note that you must be logged in, or your karma won't
count.
Cheers
Rudi

Troubles with outdated PO files.
by Jesús Franco
I'm having troubles pushing my changes vía git. I've struggled the
whole night learning how to sync our language (Spanish) po's with
updated POTs I was waiting for "someone else" to do that because i was
fear to broke something. Now i've achieved update with publican the
PO's, but now i just have the slooooow and buggy transifex interface
and my changes aren't in just a file with minor fixes, but a lot of
fixes in several files, strings untranslated and so.
I just can't understand how is Spanish counted as 100% translated if
we are playing with outdated release notes ;)
Also, publican complains a lot about files without PO strings, having
checked every file has translations.
And, i'm not able to build the proofread copy since i've updated the
PO's with Publican. In file Xorg.xml stills complaining about
unrecognized <screen> element as children of <para> just at the bottom
of the strings. I've tried to found what i'm doing wrong looking at
other languages Xorg.po files but i can't see any difference (except
the language, of course).
However, below xml_tmp/Xorg.xml it's rendered different by publican:
at other languages building succesfully his html's, Xorg.xml has the
<screen> element starting at a new line separated from his father
element <para>. Just in spanish the <screen> is sticked at the same
line as <para> and always publican stop building the target files
there.
I was having troubles with multibyte characters at others files, but
i've fixed on the file itself, and publican just stills complaining
about the "unrecognized" <screen> children.
--------
Trying to workaround:
I've uploaded the Spanish PO files to this URL:
http://tezcatl.fedorapeople.org/stage/release-notes_es-ES.tar.gz
I'd be very thankful if you could take a look and merge the
translations.
I uploaded the list of errors publican is printing
http://fpaste.org/xAXO/
----
I hope this could help, or someone can help me.
Now i'm going to poke my fellow translators, maybe they have more
ideas.

Important pot update needed (sorry!)
by Máirín Duffy
Hi translators,
During the course of adding the images and fixing bugs on the website,
we've noticed a few bad goofs (my fault) that will require updating the
POT. They aren't huge changes and not fixing them could be embarassing,
which is why we're proposing to fix them now rather than waiting.
Here are the issues we'd like to propose updating the POT for:
Under "CD/DVD Creator", the text is wrong, it says:
"There's a remote desktop sharing application built right into Fedora
that allows you to share your desktop via VNC."
This should instead be:
"There's a CD/DVD burning tool in Fedora that makes it easy to create
CDs and DVDs when you insert a blank disc."
The a href tags are missing in the text for Totem, Rhythmbox, Cheese,
and Shotwell. So we can't add the links without adding the a href tags
to the strings.
The a href tags are missing in the text for Evolution and Empathy. So
we can't add the links without adding the a href tags to the strings.
Let me know if there's any issue with updating to fix these issues.
Thanks, you folks are doing an amazing job either way! Keep on
rockin' :)
You rock,
~m

es translator for the website?
by Máirín Duffy
Hi,
I am not sure who the es translator for www.fpo is, but I would like to
ask if we can replace:
"Características e Imágenes de Pantallas"
with
"Características e capturas"
I ask this because with that phrase as long as it is, the navbar has to
be especially tuned down for the es translation, and it'll be at a point
size of 8pt. This is smaller than the text on the main page and I think
is too small for a navbar.
Let me know if this change is okay.
