Anaconda Translation&Keyboard Test Day recap
by Igor Pires Soares
I want to thank all testers, translators, developers and users who
helped us on this test day [1].
We manage to have several bugs reported covering different languages and
their input characteristics. It is nice to have some issues detected at
this time of the release cycle since they were usually detected closer
to the release date, now translators and developers have more time to
work on them.
Here is a list of bugs filed during the Test Day:
634385 NEW - Multiple placeholders within one string in anaconda.po
635042 NEW - [minor, i18n] "Cancel" button is not translated in various
dialogs
634777 NEW - Firstboot does not show translations in hardware profile
screen
634499 NEW - [te_IN] character appear half in some text box with
firefox/thunderbird
634556 NEW - language support is not installed by selecting few
languages.
634680 NEW - firstboot: License Agreement isn't translated to Japanese.
634475 NEW - Anaconda is not fully translated into zh_CN
634484 NEW - Codes are displayed in anaconda GUI
634486 NEW - Descriptions are missing in partitioning screen of
anaconda
634548 NEW - [gu-IN]Some strings are untranslated in gdm
634739 ASSIGNED - terminal exit with backspace or Delete button
628241 CLOSED ERRATA - Fedora 14 Alpha, post reboot installation steps
not working
Now it is time to help on triaging and solving those bugs. In addition,
we need to keep testing in order to assure good localization and
internationalization support for everyone.

About %s order problem
by Tian Shixiong
Hi guys,
The problem I met is: when there exist two or more %s in a msgid line
of a PO file,
for example:msgid "Creating %s filesystem on %s". How to setup their
order in a right way in translation.
I use %1$s and %2$s to distinguish them in msgstr line. But this
didn't work, and showed
error message: fatal error 'msgstr' is not a valid Python format
string, unlike 'msgid'. Reason: In the directive number 1, the
character '$' is not a valid conversion specifier.
I suppose that this is a PO file format related problem. The problem
will cause some of languages(like Chinese) translation in a wrong
order, and be misunderstood by end-users.
How to solve this?
PS: The example msgid I use in this mail, is from anaconda.po fedora
14 branch.[1]

Yes, I updated the the untranslated messages too, and submitted a complete
translation on th 22:th of May. (Since then, of course, more things have
changed.)
I just checked and I see that the updated translation is included in
yum-3.2.28-3.fc14.noarch. So I'll close this now.

[Bug 617188] New: Swedish translation of Spacewalk/spacewalk-server named "sv..po" rather than "sv.po".
by Red Hat Bugzilla
Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional
comments should be made in the comments box of this bug.
Summary: Swedish translation of Spacewalk/spacewalk-server named "sv..po" rather than "sv.po".
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=617188
Summary: Swedish translation of Spacewalk/spacewalk-server
named "sv..po" rather than "sv.po".
Product: Fedora Localization
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: low
Component: Other language
AssignedTo: dimitris(a)glezos.com
ReportedBy: goeran(a)uddeborg.se
QAContact: aalam(a)redhat.com
CC: piotrdrag(a)gmail.com, fedora-trans-list(a)redhat.com
Classification: Fedora
I tried to add a Swedish translation to Spacewalk/spacewalk-server. But
apparently I managed to type two dots before "po". So instead of a Swedish
translation entry showing up, now there is on for the unknown language "sv.".
It seems I can't fix this from the web interface.
Could you please correct my mistake? (Or tell me how to do it myself, if
possible.)

Deletion of ca-ES/docs-power-management-guide.f14.Appendix.po >
by Robert Antoni Buj i Gelonch
Hi,
Please remove ca-ES/docs-power-management-guide.f14.Appendix.po from "Home
» Projects » Docs :: Power Management Guide » Fedora 14 » ca-ES" [1]
The correct file_name should be ca-ES/Appendix.po, my apologies ;-)

Education with Fedora
by Tezcatl Franco
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi Fedoreans!
My name is Jesús Franco and i'm a teacher in a k12 school in a suburb of
Mexico City. My interest in Fedora as the best distro for education
begun a year ago when i met for first time Sugar on a Stick. I'm user of
free software since 4 years ago, and i have collaborated mainly in
translations for riseup.net
Now, in my work for developing course materials for the Sixth Meeting of
Free Education, Culture and Software EDUSOL 2010, i have started to
contributing to the Fedora community with translations of Release Notes,
and several pages in the wiki.
My purpose in this email to you, is starting a discussion about how
could we use (and develop documentation) Fedora for introduction to
literacy informatics, not for children only, but adults too. The ICT's
are transforming all the education panorama, since they are letting
think in new ways, and sharing with enhanced flexibility the knowledge.
We don't need just OLPC, we need too Tutors for adults ;)
We have two Fedora spins aimed "specifically" to education, Fedora-Edu
and Sugar Live. I'm very interested on using Sugar for adults'
education, and i started a page reflecting my own experience.
http://proyectofedora.org/wiki/AlfabetizacionTicAdultos . But i wanted
to share this with these Fedora communities, with the hope of reaching
other educators concerned in those population groups.
I'd like to having too the support of some translators in translating
some Sugar documentation yet done in flossmanuals.net to spanish, and as
contribution of the project "Instalar no es suficiente" to Fedora,
translating to english some materials for a LXDE-spin guide. You see,
i'm not perfect writing in english, even when i translate from english
to spanish. I've seen some mails in docs/trans lists about contributing
documentation non written originally in English, but translating to
English for letting others translators communities reaching the contribs
from LATAM/Spanish fedora people.
Excuse me for cross-posting this time to several lists, i think is
worthy do like this for starting the discussion, but i'll just continue
writing inside the lists that answer to this challenge.
In solidarity,
Jesus (tezcatl) Franco
