Introducing myself to Fedora translators
by Tezcatl Franco
Hello Fedora people!
My name is Jesús Franco, alias Tezcatl(or tzk) in many pages out there,
because Tezcatlipoca is poor known as brother of Quetzalcoatl and as
dark-mage, but that's not fair. He represents the wisdom of the
subconscious mind and the older values of humanity. Maybe you has
guessed now, i'm from Mexico.
I'm GNU/Linux user from 4 years ago and i've done translations for
projects like riseup.net and others related to autonomy and
security. My work in free software movement has been in workshops of
digital inclusion with children and elder people, from fundamentals of
ofimatics to introduction to programming for kids with Scratch of MIT.
Installfests has not been very appealing to me, but with a friend i've
worked in the migration of 2 after-school centres in towns of high
levels of margination in Mexico City and Chimalhuacán, State of
Mexico. Actually that was done with Ubuntu the last year, but i've
discovered Fedora now and i like it very much because his commitment
to free software it's more definite. However in the FliSol of this
year i'll promote Fedora with a presentation and giving personal
guidance and support for the guys and girls who wants give a try to
Fedora in the installation area.
My goals joining to Fedora translators (Spanish specifically) are
1. supporting the translation of documentation more necessary to let
other instructors like me using Fedora in live or online workshops
of "digital inclusion" as an approach to the empowering of
marginalized communities reducing the "digital breach". 2. Making
proposal of correction of sexism in the language of traductions, much
more problematic in spanish than in english, i want to believe Fedora
has a wise community very proud to be the First to include the better
Features in his contributions to the whole open source ecosystem.
Finally, i'm sorry for my poor writing abilities in english, i'm not
used to translate from spanish to english. More likely from english to
my language. I'm pretty sure joining this community will be plenty of
opportunities to learn, share and joy. :)
Best regards,
Jesús Franco

A reminder about beta release notes
by John J. McDonough
In the past, the beta release notes have only included U.S. English.
However, a number of teams have indicated they would like to see their
translation included. Some have even indicated they would like partial
translations in the beta rpm.
We will make the beta rpm on Monday, September 13. Any translations
over 90% I will include in the rpm. If you would like a less complete
translation included, or if you would rather not have a translation less
than 100% included, post to the docs list or notify me directly by email
to that effect. (I get the trans list in digest, so it is easy to miss
things).
Remember, Monday, September 13 for beta.
Thanks

Self-introduction: Igor Oblachko, Russian
by Igor Oblachko
Name: Igor Oblachko
Location: Pavlovsky Posad, Russia
Login: oblachko
Language: Russian
Profession or Student status: Translator/PhD in Germanic languages
About myself: In 2002 I graduated from the Foreign Languages department (English) of the former Barnaul State Pedagogical University and three years later successfully finished my postgraduate studies with a PhD in Germanic languages granted. Since then I've been working as a freelance translator. Among the books I translated there are several TaschenGuide books (DE>RU), several Wiley books (EN>RU) including "The Invisible Employee" and "Leading with Questions" as well as some highly specialized oil&gas projects for the OJSC Rosneft Oil Company, etc. but till now - no IT translations to be found in my portfolio. And I wish there were some as I'm very much interested in various aspects of IT, information security being my favourite. I'm not a very experienced Linux user but my desire to master alternative operation systems and commitment to Open Source software were the impetus for me to participate in Fedora Project. For the time being I'm ready to contribute to the project a
s a translator/editor because translation is not only my profession but a hobby (better say, a passion) as well. Besides translating documentation and wiki pages, I would also like to localize software which to some extent bridges the gap between users and developers. I hope that my participation will be useful for the community and will give me the chance to broaden my horizons.

Release Notes Draft
by John J. McDonough
The wiki has been converted and a draft of the release notes is
available at
http://jjmcd.fedorapeople.org/Download/Release_Notes/
for your review. The sources are up to date in git, but the translation
branch is not yet complete. I will go ahead and do that this afternoon.
If you could review your beat promptly that would be a help. This
evening we are due to send the first POTs to L10N and we should
stabilize them by tomorrow, so any edits should be made promptly.
A number of beats were blank, and some of them probably should be, but I
left them in the document for now as a reminder in case you are aware of
something that is missing. I will get rid of them tomorrow.
Beginning tonight I will start the nightly build, and all the languages,
initially partially or not at all translated, will begin appearing in
http://fedorapeople.org/groups/docs/release-notes/
Thank you all for your hard work!

Of course you will want to build the en-US and make sure it builds
properly before committing the changes.
If you can get the changes committed before 0337Z, then they will show
up in the overnight POTs and draft build.
The POT update runs fairly quickly, so L10N should have those well
before 0400Z each day. The draft build starts later and takes a while,
so the updated drafts on
http://fedorapeople.org/groups/docs/release-notes
won't show up until shortly after 0930Z.
I've made some other suggested changes and restarted the draft build
manually, and the link at
http://jjmcd.fedorapeople.org/Download/Release_Notes/
is now just a symlink to the groups/docs copy.

Certainly we would welcome more detail. You should feel free to provide
it on the wiki.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Beats/Boot
I'm less sure about moving it. Since there were no other significant
changes to System Daemons perhaps it could go there and not get lost,
but I suspect system admins would need to make lots of changes to their
init scripts and I would think the first place they would look would be
Boot.
I would dearly love to give admins some help on what they need to do to
restore their configurations after this update, but I can't do it
without help, probably a lot of help, from development.
Since the XML conversion is now complete there is no longer a need to
maintain the beta wiki freeze, so if you can possibly contribute, please
do. The longer you wait, though, the more of a problem it creates for
L10N. But I do think it is important.
