L10N @ Flock - my subject proposal
by Jean-Baptiste
Hi,
I'd like to make a short talk about translation in Flock 2016.
As F24 is the first release I'm a contributor, I'd like to share my
point of view on :
* current status of translation in Fedora
* current tools
* current processes
would someone help me out with content ? And/or suggest topics ?
I may also propose website, docs and infra to make workshops on the
current status of translation to go further in Guidelines on what is
translatable (or not), why, and how.
A shortlist of good and bad things I noticed :
* status of fedora translation :
* stats about contributors and language translations in Zanata and
globaly in F20/F21/F22/F23/F24 repositories
* good : many languages, zanata stats, appdata infos
* bad : not easy to know current situation, finding the right
translation platform for each software ?
* current tools :
* list of what are the main tools we are using
* good : zanata easy to use, translation memory, bugzilla, trans-*
lists, meetbot, test day tool
* bad : data access & stat production, activity feed, link with
projects repositories, outdated information about transifex,
insufficient use of wiki, what to translate on wiki ?
* current processes :
* list processes (website, docs, release focused software,
softwares from big projects firefox/kde/gnome, others)
* good : global schedule with every project included, quick and
honest answers (sometimes we know, sometimes it's messy)
* bad : review process isn't use by many teams, automatic push of
content on websites, the role of staging websites is useless for
translation as everything is pushed to both platforms
sincerely,

How to upload .po file to translate.zanata?
by Florian Heiser
Hi,
Sorry for bothering this list again with my rookie questions.
I translated (part of) blivet-gui into German (de) and noticed that the
f24-branch also requests translations for de-DE. How can I upload the
.po file of de-translations to de-DE? Or is this maybe not even needed?
Will a system automatically default to de if de-DE is not available?
The other thing, sometimes I see a master branch, I assume that all
"release branches" (such as f24, devel, rhel7...) are forked from this
master. What's the strategy if there is no master? Will the next release
be forked from the latest version? What if the release branches all have
different progress of translation (say 41%, 48%, and 66%). What this
question basically means, that it isn't obvious to me to what branch to
contribute (even in the case that there is a master. So, what would be
of higher priority? A master or f-24? Will the changes to f-24 be merged
back to master?).
Beste Grüße,
Florian

Re: Blivet-gui translation F24

Good news.
I've got replied, and he agreed to move it to fedora.zanata.org. It
would be easier for him, if any translator stops working on
translate.zanata.org for a while. I recommend him to lock the project
until the migration is over.

Self-introduction: Mauro Graziano
by Mauro Graziano
My greetings to the Fedora community.
I am Mauro Graziano, and I started using GNU/Linux in 2000 (Red Hat Linux 6.x/7.x). Since then, I have used many different distributions (in particular Debian and Fedora), but this is my first attempt to contribute to an open source project. Even though my command of English is far from being perfect, I think I should be able to translate technical documentation into my own language (Italian). I still need to study the tools required to get the job done (Zanata?), but I am willing to learn.
At the moment, the highest qualification in English language that I hold is a certificate from the Shenker Institute, roughly equivalent to the level B2 of CEFR. Furthermore, during these days I am starting to prepare for "Cambridge English: Advanced" (level C1), planning to take the exam before the end of summer.
I will be grateful to anyone who can help me to start.

highlighted letters in menus / shortcuts
by Jean-Baptiste
Hi there,
one contributor ask me how to handle highlighted letters in menus.
For example : in system-config-language, there is "_Help" and "_Ok". It
looks like to be the keys for shortcuts.
Is there a rule to know impact of translating those words ?
thanks for your help,
