Dear translator coordinator,
it's been a long time now that I feel like our joining process is too
complex for newcomers.
Current process says:
* Create a Fedora account (FAS)
* Subscribe to the mailing lists & introduce yourself
* Login to Zanata with your FAS account
* Find your language team and join in
It also suggest to create a personal page at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Username which requires to be
sponsored in cvsl10n (there a missing step in our documentation).
1. Many users don't know where is the appropriate mailing list.
+ Some mailing lists have a manual validation
+ Some mailing lists are private
=> the potential contributor starts with administrative tasks and
sometime dead-ends (joining a private mailing list isn't easy...)
2. Most of our contributors are not par of cvsl10n, many members of
cvsl10n are not in Zanata.
=> new user can't use wiki and some other features, so they can't
contribute directly our L10N global/team documentation even for a typo.
To help fixing 1st issue, I suggest only to ask the user to go on
fedora.zanata.org and join the team he wants
=> if he don't have a FAS account, the "Sign Up" buttons lead to FAS
=> the coordinator will receive an automatic email and will welcome
the user, inviting him to introduce himself by including the relevant
About mailing list, I suggest a new recommendation: keep the mailing
lists open to direct registration and public. We are an open
organization, newcomers should be able to easily join us, read past
conversation and everyone should be able to link a conversation to
To help fixing 2nd issue, I suggest to do an automatic mechanism to
detect new users in Zanata every day/week/month and mass adding them.
=> We'll only need a few sponsors instead of spamming the 45 current
sponsors and 8 admins.
=> we add a little warning about wiki edition to tell to wait for this
"automatic" group addition.
If someone has an issue or want quick addition, we still have l10n
administrators, an email on trans@ will do the job.
The only thing we need is an export of all Zanata users.
Here is my request: https://zanata.atlassian.net/browse/ZNTA-1915
Note about FAS groups: we currently have cvsl10n, l10n-admin,
l10n-commits, l10n-editor. I'll ask infra team to merge them into one
single group: "l10n". For information: we had public confirmation that
the others are no longer used anymore.
thanks for your feedback on these questions, we'll do these action
unless any issues are raised (we'll also discuss this in next meeting).
Dear translator teams,
last year, I suggested a few improvements in our wiki roles to have
clear content for each of these:
* Team coordinator,
* Localization administrator.
In this discussion, I offered to ask the design team for a few images to
illustrate the roles (mailing list discussion )
After a very long delay (mostly on my side), we now have a few images to
discuss about. It's only three little images for the wiki, it may change
a lot until final result, but you may want to come and discuss it .
On the admin image, the design team made a draft including some
language/locale codes. The idea is good, but I think we should be
impartial about how to select them, unless someone think it is unfair, I
suggest to use the current status for the "priority packages" (from 1st
to 12th) : pl, es, cs, fr, sv, uk, pt-BR, it, ca, zh-CN, de, nl. We
should be able to change it someday if needed.
have a good day,

About You: Hello. I started using Free Libre and OpenSource Software
in 2011, Fedora 15 was my very first Linux distribution and since then
I have being using it as my main operating system in all my boxes. I
have contributed to the local Fedora Community in Nicaragua since 2013
mostly on Installs Fest or giving some basic technical support to new
comers on the local mailing list.
You and the Fedora Project: Recently I got interested in contributing
to the Fedora Project beyond my local community to help others to
become users and later contributors, so for this matter I decided to
learn about contributing to l10n and g11n teams. Later I will try to
join other teams of interest as the Documentation Team, Fedora
Packaging Team and the Fedora Ambassadors team.

I'm translating some stuff related to music editing, and I found two things
that brought me doubts. First that it says "...this shows the nudge pane,
part of transport." Transport of what? Second, my translation returns an
error about missing GUI tags but as far as I can see, all tags are there,
so any suggestions?
Specifically, I'm translating this document:
I attach a screenshot to show how it looks like the text, so maybe someone
can figure out where is the problem.
Cheers & thanks,
Is there any chance I could get contacted by a german (Switzerland)
translator or even better, coordinator? Not sure if Fab is still around, so
I'm trying my luck here.

you requested to be added to cvsl10n in FAS. This group is related to
Fedora translation project, as described in:
For some part of the Fedora Infrastructure, you must be part of at least
one group (other than the CLA group) in the Fedora account system. Often
annotated as CLA+1.
This group is not mandatory to use the translation platform, but gives
you write access to wiki, fedorapeople space, etc.
You should be approved by your language coordinator, please introduce
yourself in the appropriate mailing list or send him a direct email.

Hello, I'm an American-Brazilian Computer Science student looking to
participate in the Fedora project. I have never worked on an open-source
project before, but I`m very much eager to start.
On my free time I study C/C++ and Python, and I look forward to
contributing to Fedora's development in the future.
You and the Fedora Project: I`ve had a taste of many major GNU/Linux
distros, such as Debian and OpenSUSE, but the one i truly feel confortable
with is Fedora. As mentioned before, I`m interested in contributing to
other Fedora projects, mainly focused in programming, but I`m happy to
contribute in any ways possible!
