Proposal: Fedora G11N Steering Committee

Hi All, I am sure, most of the people working with Fedora I18N, L10N from 5-6 year must be aware regarding Fedora L10N Steering Committee. [1] As far as i know this committee was active around 2009 and very effective. During Fedora G11N activity day discussions, we again felt there is need for some kind of official committee to drive Fedora Globalization activities. Fedora is growing faster with number of different domains and G11N also need to adapt those changes quickly to remain on the track. For this purpose and in line with [1], we were thinking of Fedora Globalization steering committee. I have created initial proposal for it. [2] Its open for feedback, please feel free to share other active members, discuss in your respective language groups. This is just initial proposal and i am sure, we can improve and make it more effective with active participation. Localization of Fedora docs - We missed one more release...

Hi teams, Fedora docs internationalization missed one more release, because of the fedora-docs build system being understood by one single person. And that person, despite his qualities and skills is/was unavailable for months. All is here, the script works, but nobody does the action to make it go from staging to production. I'm really disappointed. I spent so much time trying to make it work. Doing that is not respecting the hundred of hours of work localization community did. Are we transparent for you docs people? I feel like taking a break, but I feel like responsible to make fedora docs l10n go live. Can someone take the responsibility to make this real? I'm tired. -- Jean-Baptiste Holcroft

Fedora Zanata and projects locked?

Hi everybody, I just joined into Zanata because I wanted translate some projects incompleted, but I see almost all projects are in read only. Does It will be replaced by translate.fedoraproject.org? Cheers!

Translation of documentation admonitions

Hi, Translated docs on the staging server look nice (many thanks for those who have prepared the infrastructure) but some parts are untranslated. "NOTE" icon in the header is English: https://docs.stg.fedoraproject.org/uk/fedora/f32/release-notes/ Is there any way to translate admonition names ("Note", "Caution", etc.) or use some localized icons? Copy the string vs blank translation

Hello, I'm starting translating Fedora but I've found a problem when the translation is the same than the original string. E.g. "Fedora IoT Edition" is the name of the edition, so I won't change it. If I put "Fedora IoT Edition" in the translation string, weblate says an action is required because the translation is identic to the original string If I leave the translation field blank, weblate says it's untranslated. What should I do in these particular cases? Thanks, Enrico

❣️ Fedora docs is now fully translatable ❣️

Dear translators, the internationalization of the Fedora Documentation has seen some progress. 1. the homepage conversion is now complete, it doesn't contain markup anymore! But sorry, you have to translate it again. 2. I configured all projects in the translation platform All projects start with "fedora-docs-l10n" Translating everything means a lot of work: 92 375 messages containing 1 784 225 words. There is a lot of duplication in some docs (install guide, admin guide, ...), but if a single person had to do this, it would represent an effort of 112 days (with 8h of work per day and 2000 words/hour). In terms of priority, I suggest: 1. Homepage: https://translate.fedoraproject.org/projects/fedora-docs-l10n-docs/ 2. Project description: https://docs.stg.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/ 3. User facing content (teams descriptions, release notes, how-tos,...) 4. Dev content (packaging guideline, install guide, administrator guide,...) The global mindset I decided to apply: there is no content not worth translating. Only you decide if it worth it or not. I don't expect any language to reach 100%. Don't force yourself, just do what you like. Next step is publication, which is under Adam's responsibility (I also asked for help from one addition infrastructure team member). By the way, following the simple doctrine "friends of my friends are my friends", I suggested Asciidoc.org to reuse our system for their translation, and offered to host them in our translation platform. After all, it's thanks to Asciidoc and Antora that we have a documentation system. It's my way to say thank you. Jean-Baptiste

Fedora 32 release - translation work

Dear translators, Fedora 32 release is in a few weeks (two or three), I created this component list to help you to identify priorities: https://translate.fedoraproject.org/component-list/fedora-32-release/ It contains: * our websites * our docs system homepage * our release notes (hosted in docs) To preview your docs translations: https://docs.stg.fedoraproject.org/ To preview website translations, add "stg" to the corresponding website: https://stg.getfedora.org/ Weblate is updated once a day with new content (you should expect some in the future). Translations done with update are published once a day. You may still hit bugs, it's the right time to share it here. Please note our docs website internationalization lacks many features (no automatic detection of user agent, language button is hidden on little, ...). I am afraid many won't change at all before release.
