Hello,
I am new to fedora, and was looking for an activity to help the project. I figured out with some help that I could translate some of your docs into French. I started on web translate, and wonder what to do next to have the changes validated.
I have started to suggest translations in French, and I would like to be put in contact with the francophone coordinator, if such a person exist in Fedora.
Also I would like to know if there is a policy concerning the use of inclusive language in French. I have opened a diversity ticket here https://pagure.io/fedora-diversity/issue/204
I am also looking for the translation project and translation guidelines !
Warm regards,
Nattes
Hey,
Based on my experience on Polish language, if there is nobody currently contributing (i.e. You can check F33 or Rawhide, if those are translated), I'd suggest skipping "suggestions" part and just provide translation. Otherwise if current translator is not active, you may stuck in suggestion limbo forever and nothing may be as demotivating.
If someone is already contributing to new translations, either write directly to them, or start thread on language-specific translation mailing group.
Also welcome to the project! :)
Best regards, Michał

Bonjour Natacha,
I fully agree with Michal, just go and translate :)
being inclusive is fine for Fedora project I think, and I'll fully approve if there is a debate. Just don't over exaggerate it and nobody will mind (there is a lot of way to say the same thing in our language).
I'm supposed to be coordinator for French language but I have no time, I'm focus on tooling whenever I find some time... The tooling itself is designed to allow everyone to directly contribute without asking for permission ♡. Just go for it!
If needed we have trans-fr mailing list to ask for reviews and traduc mailing list to ask for advices.
Welcome in the Fedora project! -- Jean-Baptiste
Thank you! Where can I suscribe to the french translation mailing list?

Hi Jean Baptiste, I started see here https://docs.fedoraproject.org/fr/fedora-join/welcome/welcome/ using https://translate.fedoraproject.org/translate/fedora-docs-l10n-fedora-join/m... but I dont understand why the links work in some cases and not in others. Who could explain it to me? I have lost the way to the translating mailinglist! Kind regards, nattes

First, i see that the string on Weblate yiu mentioned should be admin fedoraproject.org, not account fedoraproject.org. Consider reviewing that.
Reading the French documentation, I see that some link syntax are incorrect: the part "link:https://pagure.io..." is wrongly separated. Ex.:
link : https ://pagure.io/fedora-join/Welcome-to-Fedora[Welcome-to-Fedora Pagure repository]
should be
link:https://pagure.io/fedora-join/Welcome-to-Fedora%5BWelcome-to-Fedora Pagure repository].
Make sure to check the link syntax, as it can be tricky.
Best regards, Rafael Fontenelle
thank you for your comments. I am not sure I have corrected this. Will look into it.
Hi Jean-Baptiste, can you make me a member of the L18N SIG group ? I feel I need a little more interractions with the team to continue contributing. Can you also tell me where I can suscribe to the trans-fr mailing list ? I also think it would be nice to have translation activities linked to the fedora badges project. Has anything be done yet to promote this ? It seems unfair that because you contribute to a non dev activity you are not rewarded for it.
Kind regards, Natacha

I *think* there are a few issues that are hard to resolve to get this working (but others here may know more):
- fedora messaging support on Weblate: not sure if this exists yet, and what needs to be done to add it - the badges tool itself is not in the best shape and at the moment is not actively being maintained from what I know (lots of issues even with the tools that are set up for badges)
So these are infrastructure related tasks, and I guess the CPE or infra team would probably be the best place to see what the current status is, and what future plans are.
In the meantime, it should be possible to give some badges manually if someone wants to take that on? That can be discussed with the badges team (maybe mindshare/commops can also help?).

This is the "fr" mailing list https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/trans-fr.lists.fedoraproject.org...

Yes. But this need someone to do the work. And I think that people already involved in weblate management and integration with pagure, are already full of work. Maybe you could inform the Mindshare committee about this issue.
Ciao, A.

I’m here, I just don’t have time/energy/motivation to work on documentation right now. :) I’d appreciate if you could use the suggest feature when contributing to non-docs projects.
Best,
