Hi,
Finally after 6 month search I found a new partner for the Khmer Translation Sprints. I had two weeks ago a meeting at OpenDevelopment Cambodia about it, they requested a paper writing down what Fedora is and what we will do at the sprint. Just to have it for their financial backers. I submitted that paper 2 days later and they confirmed today that they will host us, they also would host us monthly but after a short survey with the most active translators we decided to do it just bi-monthly for not overstrain the volunteers. The sad thing is they will host us just on sunday, but the saturday was problematic anyway as it is in Cambodia a normal working day.
I was during ICT Camp back in December approached to start with translation to kuy, I have spoken with Praveen about it, so we will start with it.
* Therefore this language must be added to zanata, set me to the coordinator, I will handle this like khmer to. Its better I doing it its just administrative work anyway. Language code for it is kdt. I added it to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N_Teams
so can I have it until 5th of May thats when the Sprint will happen
* Speaking about this teams list, as we had a few days here a discussion on this, we should clean up the joining process! I dont see any good in having just a few sponsors, I think the coordinators are the right people to sponsoring.
* Migrating to weblate is there still interest? I have as I would find it nice to integrate badges for an amount of strings. There is a background why I want to have it. I working currently with the Ministry for Education, Youth and Sports on a initiative to increase the contributions of Cambodians to FOSS, translation is one of the main starting points and from ministry side the reason why this initiative is done as they want to increase the usage of foss in their use but are bound by another order to use only software available in khmer. The idea is currently to initiate a contest with the help of a badges system, encourage the people to do things. There will be physical prizes awarded if we are enabled to award badges in this system via API to it would be helpful for the translation process here.
* stage of Fedora in khmer, we made good progress in the translating Fedora. We concentrated during the last sprint on translating the web pages, to get people informed about Fedora which has from our perspective the higher priority. We will finish the translation during the next sprint and starting to complete ABRT/Anaconda and Co. There is one negative point currently you can use workstation in khmer just not install it or use our own apps. But the stage of GNOMEs translation to khmer is declining, reason for it is the inactivity of the last remaining translator on GNOMEs side. I have found somebody who is willing to give this team a reboot. So question is does somebody know whom I have to pin in GNOME to swap the coordinator? If I could fix this until 5th the candidate could start working with me on it during the next sprint.
so I hope I find some help to all my things

So the request is the add https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuy_language AFAIK, this action is to done by Piotr Drag. He reads the mailing list, please warn here if no action in a week.

discussion on this, we should clean up the joining process! I dont see any good in having just a few sponsors, I think the coordinators are the right people to sponsoring.
What is the action here? Adding multiple people in Zanata? You'll be able to do it as a coordinator.
- Migrating to weblate is there still interest? I have as I would find
We'll have to quit Zanata because of the risk, but chosing Weblate isn't decided yet. Some info related to this subject: * docs internationalization proof of concept will use Weblate, we have a mini-fad in two days to move forward on this matter: https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/250 . Once done, the translator community will be able to test Weblate in a Fedora context. * We now get badges for commits to Pagure https://pagure.io/fedora-badges/issue/434 and I got it for this group of commits coming from Weblate for doc's translation: https://apps.fedoraproject.org/datagrepper/id?id=2019-043f0002-c79d-4256-8d7... * To be honest, the translation memory of Weblate really have to be improved, I opened this ticket: https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/issues/2664
- stage of Fedora in khmer, we made good progress in the translating
Fedora. We concentrated during the last sprint on translating the web
You'll probably like to see km (for Khmer) and kdt (for Kuy) added in this file so the user experience improves (it detects the browser preferences and/or set it based on the accessed file). As far as I know, you should ask the fedora-infrastructure team to change this file: https://infrastructure.fedoraproject.org/cgit/ansible.git/tree/roles/fedora-... You may add robyduck in CC so he knows about it.

I am not enabled to add people to the cvsl10n group and only group membership gives you all advantages of being a Fedora member. The action here is to re-think if the current way is the optimum from my perspective its not. And votey was just one example that it doesnt work

I'm afraid that many applications will refuse to use Kuy locale if it is not added to glibc (reason: No such locale). Gnokii, please file the request here [1] (select the component: localedata). Collecting the correct data will be tricky because the language is not supported by CLDR. you see currently problems where are none, first Sprint will happen after the release of F30 so doesnt matter from this perspective anyway.
Second, also here we see it as a higher priority to translate web first so there is a lot to do until we will come to any applications where glibc matters

Top posting: 1. Glad to see sprint planning getting more momentum.
2. Since sprint is in May, resolving Zanata issues and completing sprint looks more realistic. ( I will be very happy ,if we can complete Weblate related decision and implementation in this short time) As Piotr says even login in Zanata not working. Do we have ticket for it?
3. I think in sprint one item can be check Fedora readiness for KUY locale. See https://pagure.io/g11n/issue/43

yeah was hard work to find a partner for a location. Its so sucking here, I mean last time the Asia Foundation wanted 30$ just for electricity from me (luckily Codingate did sponsor that) they are always unwilling to open their doors and/or want outrageous prices for renting. Universities are not a reliable partner here and even they try to get money, there is no difference between the governmental ones like RUPP or a private one like Norton. Even my direct connection to the ministry for education isnt helpful here
But I am not willing to pay, I am in trouble already with the amount of feeding the volunteers unfortunately its here custom not speaking of that I have to give them water at least for drinking. And they expecting pizza :( and this comes not cheap here.

nope, I did ask in #fedora-admin and they trid to figure out who is managing zanata now :D For me it looks a bit like an openid problem

locale. See https://pagure.io/g11n/issue/43
I dont get the link to Filipino. For me as I said there will be a long time until something "technical" gets translated web and docs will be here first. As we have already spoken about that, we will face with this language another kind of problem, there is one language code - kdt. But there are 3 writing systems as it can be written in lao, thai and khmer, so we have to figure out at a point how we deal with this but until then, they have enough to do with web and later docs and maybe they loose the passion to translate it, lets see.
happy new year ;)

common Rafael be a bit realistic, show me this language in Fedora who was translated by volunteers only in just 6 months. I dont care about any release deadines even with khmer.

So it looks like logging in to Zanata stopped working today. I’ll try again in the next few days (maybe it’s just a temporary hiccup or a problem on my end.)
