Hi, All, a new translator (Alexander Felda, user name *afeld*) tries to become a translator for Russian group. He successfully performed all necessary steps as described in https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/Guide to join the group, but still cannot get access to translations. Now he is present in Fedora Translators Group (cvsl10n) member list as *afeld*, there is no sponsor, status is unapproved and role jusst a user. What can I do (as a group coordinator) to fix the problem?

Hovewer, even if weblate doesn't require that, it would be nice to be able to add people to the FAS group. I think stupid things, but. Being part of a FAS group is something like a reward. Someone could proudly says "hey! I'm part of the Fedora translation team". Without a group membership ok, you can do the work, but meh. In addition, other than giving a formal membership, FAS group membership grant you other stuff, like the ability to vote, a mail alias, web space on fedorapeople, etc. I think that this is an important way for people to feel welcome in a community.
So, it could be the case to revise group membership, even if not strictly necessary to do the translation work.

Since AFAIK no one is actively leading the Trans Group, and i assume both of you don't have rights in FAS to sponsor someone, so opening an issue in Pagure would be helpful.

Piotr Drąg and Jean-Baptiste Holcroft were managing the Translation project, but i guess, they are away from this for a while.
As far as i know, cvsl10n and l10n were used in past to give certain level of access rights to translators and coordinators in Zanata and similar stuff, but i think they are no longer needed.
But this should and must not hold any of us back from localizing (Translating the strings) and to do something for good.

It's a personal taste, but I think it is a good practice is to write the name of previous coordinators on the team page to honor past contributors.

they are written there because I have not modified the page yet up to the
recent state of the art (lack of time or maybe mere laziness) - they are not responding now in any case. I just continue being translator and reviewer and do coordinate due to the idea that somebody has to do coordinating (taken the fallen flag :) ?). Best wishes, Igor Gorbounov

As stated in the past, a FAS group membership is no more required to access the translation platform (like it was with Zanata), and this is good because it lowers the contribution barrier. On the other hand, people performing translations are in no way recognized for their work (there aren't even badges for translators). And ok, I don't contribute to a project because I need a prize or anything else. But I think that it is in some way important to take care of "feel part of the community". CLA+1 is a global Fedora community issue I can't do anything against it.
I did manually added translators in CLA+1 in the past: https://pagure.io/g11n/issue/57 https://pagure.io/g11n/issue/55 https://pagure.io/g11n/issue/51 etc. But it just consume my time, and this CLA+1 system drives me crazy anyway.
Zanata was incompatible with contributor reward, and the Weblate migration allows to do it. The Weblate dev did a specific work for us to sends messages to our infrastructure: https://github.com/WeblateOrg/fedora_messaging/ It's ready for more than a year now...
But our infrastructure doesn't allow external system to send notification: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/8291

If you feel like taking over the subject, you are welcome to gently shake the community to make this happen. I'm tired. The only thing I'll put my veto is the Badge design, I want no flag in it. We are here for languages which are cross-borders.
