as you are involved in release lifecycle Adam, let's highlight an issue
we don't discuss much:
we can see the F39 branch were added 11 days ago:
https://translate.fedoraproject.org/changes/?component=f39&project=an...
and that changes still apply:
https://translate.fedoraproject.org/changes/?component=f39&project=an...
while the Fedora schedule tells us Software Translation Deadline is
august 22nd:
https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-39/f-39-trans-tasks.html
Yep, you're right. The string freezes haven't really been super
strictly honored lately, I think when we get the new operation
architect role filled that might be something they can push on.
A few Improvement ideas would be:
* have deadline communicated by dev teams (here, what's the translation
deadline for Anaconda?)
For this cycle it's kind of difficult because webUI is still being
worked on. I believe all the major work is done, but there can still be
cases where for instance we (QA team) find a bug and it turns out to
need a new string. I don't think there is a formal deadline; we should
probably have considered this in the Change proposal.
* have a common guideline for all fedora-synchronized release
software
(software list to be elaborated)
This is what the software string freeze is meant to be (AIUI), but
again, it seems to be less enforced lately. I remember a few years ago
it seemed to come up a lot more often...
For F39 the software string freeze date was July 25:
https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-39/f-39-all-tasks.html
which, uh, clearly didn't happen. I'll definitely bring this up with
Matthew as something for the operations architect to look at.

well, I can still see 810 words changes, on 90 languages it is a lot,
but this is another discussion ;)
Oh yes, the amount of new translation work needed *now* is a lot, for
sure - what I meant is hopefully it shouldn't change too much *more*
between now and Final.

Component is here:
https://l10n.gnome.org/module/gnome-initial-setup/#master
software translation deadline is September 13th, according to
https://wiki.gnome.org/FortyFive
Thanks a lot!
