In the meantime, if someone could share with me a .flac file that exhibits this

It would appear from some reports that xine-lib-extras-freeworld's ffmpeg
decoder is to blame here. Anyone seeing this *without* -freeworld installed?

This bug is still at large in Fedora 12, except that the fix in step 17 no
longer resolves the issue (that file doesn't exist, so creating it was
required).

for i in 'dcerpc' 'ssh' 'ftptelnet' 'smtp' 'dns' 'ssl'; do
to:
for i in 'dcerpc' 'dce2' 'ssh' 'ftptelnet' 'smtp' 'dns' 'ssl'; do
following this change snort successfully started.

Same problem in Fedora 12: irq occupied by wlan0 causing problems...maybe
ndiswrapper is the source?

followed by more tracebacks related to irq event 17. Invariably, the initial
problem is related to ndiswrapper. Tried booting with irqpoll and irqfixup--no
change in behavior.
If you need more info, I'd be glad to provide it.
