transition from red hat 9 to fedora
by George Alexeief
As a very happy RH9 user, I was also a little worried about what
switching to Fedora will mean -- instability? No support? From what I
gather so far, it seems that Fedora Core will fill the gap that RH9's
death will create.
And if Fedora doesn't cut it, then there's always SuSe -- so no matter
what, us low-cost Linux users will have somewhere to go.

Fedora, grub/lilo, and software-RAID
by Troels Arvin
Hello,
I just read that Fedora is going to ditch lilo, leaving grub. Grub is
great for many systems, but it's a nightmare for people booting on
software-RAID. I strongly suggest that lilo still be included in Fedora
until grub becomes able to install properly on software-RAID
boot-partitions.

Ditto. Or at least from one machine. I have two machines running test3. One
works with graphical boot, the other does not. The one that does not is an
OLD HP Vectra VL. It has a P2 and 128MB RAM. The one that does work is a
little Compaq Presario with a Celeron and 320MB. Neither has any of the new
fancy graphics cards. The fact that they differ in this relatively minor way
is indeed odd.

missing RPM in desktop install -- xsri-2.1.0-6
by Alan Peery
I get 80%+ through installation of a default desktop installation, and
the installation stops at "The package xsri-2.1.0-6 cammnot be opened.
This is due to a missing file or perhaps a corrup package..."
At this point the install will let me retry forever, but not skip the
package and continue on. Is there any way to work around this? The
md5sums of the .iso files are correct, so I don't think I've had a
download problem.
Detail:
I happen to be installing the software under VMWare (version 3.0,
running on a Windows XP host). I've swapped the .iso files by
suspending the virtual machine and "swapping cdroms" by renaming the
.iso files on my hard drive. I've used this technique many times, and
it worked for 20 minutes following the switch, so I don't think this is
likely to be the problem.

up2date sources
by Chris Spencer
What should the sources currently be set to?
/etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources is using:
yum rawhide http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide/
Anyone that is getting updates care to tell me what they are using?
I see that the rpms are available at:
http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide/i386/Fedora/RPMS/
for manual download.
Thanks
-Chris

More usefully, look at the link at the bottom of every post, you can
unsubscribe there.
