Soundblaster
by Antonio Montagnani
I have two similar PC (old Pentium but workin fine)
In Pc no.1 I upgraded from RH8 to Fedora and it went fine: Soundblaster
is working fine
In Pc no.2 I made a fresh installation but in redhat-sound-config Fedora
doesn't see any card, that was working on Redhat 9 after soundconfig...
Where is the trick?? I assume that my Sounblaster is an old 16...but
fine on a router/firewall.
Tnx

ATI All In Wonder --- Has anyone gotten TV capture to work?
by FearOfCarpet
I was wondering if anyone has gotten an ATI All in Wonder RADEON's TV
capabilities working in Fedora? There is a lot of information on the net
about this, but I haven't seen much for the RedHat distros. Apparently I
had it working in Debian, but KDE broke before I could really use it and
I ended up wiping Debian and installing Fefora on that machine. I'm
really only after being able to watch live TV off the S-Video input...
Any info would be appreciated- TIA

please recommend a video capture card
by Mick M.
Hello list;
I am running Fedora Core 1 on an older Athlon K7 650/256MB Nvidia
gforce2 mx 400 box. (very nice btw)
My daughter is in the USAf stationed in Japan, she haa an athlon XP
3200/512 MB with ATI video and Viewsonic 15" lcd monitor.
She runs XP pro.
She has a very limited personal storage space and does not have
physical room for a TV set.
What I want to do is buy her a decent video capture card and a VCR.
Then she can watch TV/Video tapes on her computer.
As well as run her video camera into it (VHS) - no firewire or usb on
the camera.
She already has a DVD drive and CDRW on her system.
I do not run XP and want to test the hardware and maybe duplicate it on
my system before I ship it to her.
What video capture card would you recommend?
thanks
Mick M.

smb-shares
by Sturla Holm Hansen
I'm having probles when using nautilus to browse smb-shares, either on
another linux-box or on a windoze-box, it takes ages to connect, then
I'm asked for a password and then it takes ages again.
Finally I get a list of the shares on the box, when double-clicking one
of them it takes ages AGAIN, but when I'm finally inside a share things
seem to be working fine....
Any ideas?

PHP 5 Beta 2 Installs Fine
by Robert L Cochran
Just for the record, I was able to compile and install PHP 5, Beta 2 to
Fedora Core 1, using (nearly) the same configure options as the Fedora
version of php 4.3.3, with only one major issue: the configure script
issued a 'sanity check error' while checking net-snmp support. I'm sure
I have the right libraries installed, but it consistently errored out,
on net-snmp, so I removed the '--with-snmp=shared,/usr' configure line.
That allowed configure to succeed.
Now all I need to do is use PHP5. Which I definitely plan to.

mplayer projector problems with Fedora
by William John Murray
Hello,
I have had problems using a projector under Fedora.
For most applications, when I plug the projector into my laptop
(DELL Latitude 610) the screen is echoed reasonably, but a
strip at the edge of the display is missing. Fiddling with
the 'Display' and 'Screen Resolution' don't seem to help (and
the dual head does nothing!). Shame, but not crucial.
However, with mplayer 1.0rc2 (locally compiled) the -vo options
xv and gl look fine on the laptop screen but give a 'blue screen'
in their piece of the projected image. I have never seen
that before. 'gl2' works, but is very slow and finally times out.
Finally 'dga' (root!) shows a completely corrupt image, but the
same on both screens.
-x11 sort-of works, but it cannot be resized and is not very
nice.
Any ideas anyone?

vsftpd and iptables
by J. Scott Amort
I'm experimenting with a Fedora Core 1 server, and so far, everything is
running quite well. However, there appears to be a change in the
firewall rules that is causing a bit of a problem for vsftpd. I ran
redhat-config-securitylevel to allow for access through port 21, but the
firewall is blocking passive connections. I added port 20 as well, but
that didn't seem to work. What port do I need to open up? Thanks for
any help.

Scott

please recommend sendmail references/books
by Don
I'm trying to set up sendmail so I can receive e-mail directly, in
addition to using my isp supplied e-mail.
My biggest concern is that I don't want people on the internet to be
able to use my smtp server as a means to send mail to people with the
result making it look like it me... I think that's called "relaying"...
Anyway... can anybody recommend any good books on setting up sendmail?
Thanks,
Don
