Loosing Connection To subnet
by McKeever Chris
have this strange intermittent issue, on two separate occasions, on the same box spanning 2 entire scratch rebuilds of this machine, I can not
ping a certain subnet, other than the router.
if I restart the network service on the computer having this problem, it all comes back online. I can however during the whole time reach the
subnet and computers on it without a problem from any other machine.
Any thing?

system sounds
by Marc Williams
How come the login system sound doesn't work?
All my other system sounds work fine and when I go to Preferences ->
Sound -> Sound Events -> System Events -> Login and play it from there
it works fine so I know that the file, startup3.wav, exists. But I hear
no sound when logging in or starting up.
Or maybe it's just me. Does it work for anyone else?

Fdd disapeared from desktop
by F. Eli
Hello all, I am a newbie on Linux and finally got Fedora Core 1 and all
updates with up2date installed.
After a short while all of the sudden my Fdd-icon (shortcut) on the desktup
dissapeared.
Now I can not reach my Fdd anymore. Any suggestions. No problem with the
Cd-rom icon's because the appear automatically on the desktop when I insert
a Cd-rom in the Cd-drive.
My system (Mob P4S8X Asus P4 2,53Ghz 512Mb Ram) does not react on inserting
a 3,5" in de Fdd.
What is the solution? Thanks in advance

Just some information
by cVADER
Though i would let you all know, the openMosix kernel does work with
fedora, its not stated on the openMosix website, but i have done some
verification, if anyone is running a broadcom 4401 card though you will
have to get the openMosix source and compile the driver into the kernel,
anything thing else though i believe the rpm works, find, im in the
process of testing MPI with fedora, so ill let you all know how that
goes when i get some data collected

Are there plans to release a 2.4.23 kernel rpm for Core 1, or is the plan

Mounting digital camera, /etc/fstab joke ?
by Martin Andersen
Hello.
When I turn on my Sony DSC-P31 USB camera, a new
line is added to /etc/fstab:
/dev/sda1 /mnt/camera auto
noauto,owner,kudzu 0 0
Very nice, but the system doesn't mount the camera. ls /mnt/camera shows
nothing. So I need to do mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera for getting
access to the camera (only as root).
When I turn off the camera, the line in /etc/fstab disappears.
So what is the point of the line in /etc/fstab ?
How can I get the system to mount the camera as non-root without
writing something everytime I plug it in ? If I alter /etc/fstab will it
not be overwritten at boot ? Or when I turn camera on/off ?
Martin.

redhat-config-packages configuration
by Carlos Hendson
Hello,
I downloaded the 3 Fedora Core ISO images, extracted the contents to the
local disk and made the files available via NFS for network installations.
One on the network installed machines I attempted to add further packages
through redhat-config-packages but received a message instructing me to insert
the first CD. (I didn't burn CD's or and no longer have the ISO images).
The README states redhat-config-packages can use CD, Redhat tree, or ISO
directory.
Has anyone worked out how to use the extracted ISO files with this utility
or how to turn the extracted ISO images into a RedHat tree? It seems strange
the OS can be installed via NFS but not update from that same source using
the tools provided?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Carlos

Re; Graphical Boot...
by Gareth Bult
Hi,
This is a wonderful new development (!) But (!)
Please can we have something on the graphics output such that when the
disk reaches it's maximal mount count and goes off into a disk check -
we get some notification ?
(as opposed to swearing a lot about un-bootable machines and playing
with the power switch)
Quiet hard drives eh? - Who'd 'ave 'em ....
Gareth.

Re: Linux on an Apple
by listas@lozano.eti.br
Hi,
I remember something about Yellow Dog Linux, which was made for Macs. But I
guess any PowerPC-compatible distro would work. Fedora does not provides
PowerPC binaries, I guess. Maybe Debian.

pulling out email addresses
by Mark Haney
I work for an email marketing company that deal directly with physicians
and consumers (no NOT spam) but what I'm looking for is a tool that will
handle the bounces, pull the email address that bounced and dump it into a
text file for dumping into a database so that we don't keep sending to
dead accounts. I'd prefer a windows version as we are an all Windows
shop, but a linux version would get it in the door here which I'm dying to
do. Any help would be appreciated.
