Help with apt and ftp

I want to use ftp instead of http for apt, using a dedicated ftp proxy.
However, I am unable to configure it to work properly. When I use gftp
through the proxy, it gives the following,

Any ideas on how to go about this. I reaslly want to use the ftp proxy
because its faster for us, our http speeds have been capped very low.

Compile of Kino
by Kiwi-Hawk
Hi All
Me again with more of my problem this is what I get from ./configure of
Kino:
checking for special C compiler options needed for large files... no
checking for _FILE_OFFSET_BITS value needed for large files... 64
checking for _LARGE_FILES value needed for large files... no
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for libglade-2.0 libgnomeui-2.0 >= 1.110.0... Package
libglade-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libglade-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libglade-2.0' found
configure: error: Library requirements (libglade-2.0 libgnomeui-2.0 >=
1.110.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment
variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can
find them.
[root@petes-place kino-0.7.0]#
Libglade is installed as is pk-config but don´t know where to edit the
PKG_CONFIG_PATH and have not been able to find it with locate

Installation Issues
by Michel.Timmerman@verbrugge.nl
Hello fellow subscribers,
I'm fairly new to the Linux scene and I want to try Fedora Core I.
Although I'm not really sure how to install the os. This is because I have
a Windows XP installation already on my system, and I don't want this
lost. The problem is that I have a Promise FastTrak TX2000 Raid Controller
with to hd's in stripe mode (raid0), and there are no Fedora Core I
drivers available from Promise.
Has anyone some info on installing Fedora Core I on a FastTrak TX2000 Raid
system? If so, share your wisdom, please.
Thanks,
Michel Timmerman

Create a database/catalog of my music files CDs...
by Coume - Lubox.com
Hello,
I would like to know if it exists a software that could retrieve all the music available on your CD-ROMS and HDDS to create a DB (MySQL) that could help to manage them.
How do you manage your CDs?
Thxs in advance

Did you logg onto you fedora box with root? If not, root
is not the owner of the DISPLAY:0 on tryps. Try open
another terminal or use Alt+F2 to run xhost +tryps

To me it seems that you have switched to user oracle using su. In that
case the Display 0 on tryps is owned by the User who has logged on to
this machine.
Run a
xhost +tryps
as the user you have logged onto this machine, and just set the Display
variable $DISPLAY to tryps:0
bash: export DISPLAY=tryps:0
tcsh: setenv DISPLAY tryps:0

The results for "xhost +" is:
[user@tryps user$ xhost +
xhost: unable to open display "my.ip.address:0.0"
I dont have the "AllowTCP" line in my gdm.conf, but:
#DisallowTCP=true
Any further tips ?
Thanks, Alberto
