The problem may be in gdm.conf, AllowTCP=yes may help. First try xhost +.

Complie and make errors
by Kiwi-Hawk
Hi All
I´m a bit new to Linux and even newer to Fedora but I´m trying to get
Kino running and I get this error with dvdgrab when doing a make:
[root@petes-place dvgrab-1.5]# make
make all-am
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/dvgrab-1.5'
source='error.cc' object='error.o' libtool=no \
depfile='.deps/error.Po' tmpdepfile='.deps/error.TPo' \
depmode=none /bin/sh ./depcomp \
g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -D_REENTRANT -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64
-c -o error.o `test -f 'error.cc' || echo './'`error.cc
./depcomp: line 463: exec: g++: not found
make[1]: *** [error.o] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/dvgrab-1.5'
make: *** [all] Error 2
[root@petes-place dvgrab-1.5]#
I have double checked and reinstalled libtools and no change, ldconfig
-v and rpm --rebuilddb or updatedb do not either
Cheers

(and others wrote similar ideas)
yes, that's what I've been doing for non-standard packages or for
packages locally developed. However, utopia.sty (which I tend to use
because I just like it) and listings are just two examples. I do not
know the extent to which this can happen, and I wouldn't like to be
bitten by it while, e.g., preparing slides in a plane (which is not
the best idea, probably, but, hey, that's life...). I am worried
about backward compatibility, obviously, and I just do not know if the
lack of those files comes from the LaTeX distribution itsef (as it
comes from the CTAN archives, which means that whoever decides what
comes into the tetex ditribution has ruled out these packages), or if
it is a decision (maybe just an involuntary mistake) of the person who
made the packaging.

FC1 includes parted, which can do about the same things, like resizing
partitions etc. Now if only the qtparted gui was included as well...
One note: I have used parted a lot to prepare RedHat 7.x and 8.0 systems
for an upgrade to FC1. Most of the time it just worked, but sometimes
there was a cryptical message about "unsupported features". No idea what
was wrong with those disks, but better play it safe and make a backup
first.

Subject: graphical boot
I have eventually installed both Gnome and fvwm onto a minimal install. I could load both Gnome and FVWMM previously but since installing gdm using yum along with GConf i get the graphical login screen but can now only log into failsafe mode. i have tried removing all the installed stuff and re-installing is their something i am missing.
cheers

Re: plugins for pppd (pppoatm)
by Dario Lesca
Hi,
I have add to ppp-2.4.1-15.src.rpm some plugins, like the PPPoATM plugins,
useful for xDSL modem
The src.rpm is here: http://www.solinos.it/pubblica/rpms-x-fc1/
Do you think that it is useful to insert it in FC2 (mandrake 9.0 have it)
If you think that I must modify some part (like dependencies whit
linux-atm-2.4.1-1), pleas tell mi.
I have also make (amd use!) a rpm driver for modem adsl usb conexant (like
Atlantis I-Storm) ... if someone is interess to it, please tell mi....
Thank for attention ... and sorry for my bad english
