md5sum on Windows NT?
by J.L. Coenders
Does anyone know if you can verify transfered files from a Linux workstation
to a Windows NT workstation with md5sum?
Or a similar program which works on both?
Thanks,

Hey.. Since you're the ISP.. May I ask you a question?
Say I'm with ISP X, and I'm subscribed to their 384/128k package.
They say it's best effort. I want to know, how do they Cap the connection
to the said 384k.
What sort of trafficshaping etc do they do? TCP Window shaping?
Packet dropping?? ACKs??

is /dev/null a vaild Home Directory??
by Ow Mun Heng
Hi,
I'm creating a bunch of users on the server that only needs to have
samba file share access. Their Shell is /sbin/nologin.
Currently, all of them have home directories, which I do not want.
Can I put in /dev/null as their default home directory??
Cheers,
OW

Large partitions
by Davide Dolcini
Our society is planning to buy a storage ide to scsi raid unit, and they
are wondering what kind of partition can be used.
The plans are to connect that unit on a semi-old (an amd duron 850
machine with 512 megs of ram) machine, configured ad-hoc (obviously with
a scsi external port) with FC 1 and to access it by the network (samba)
So the plans are to buy a promise or proware raid eide to scsi storage
unit with 14 / 15 hd slots, and 250 Gb Hard Disks.
We already have a storage unit which holds 1,5 Terabytes, it's
formatted with jfs and attached to a rack xeon server
What kind of partition is it better to hold that large amount of data?
I'm not a great expert of jfs, neither of other partitions than ntfs,
ext2, ext3 and reiserfs but they gave me this task.
I hope i explained myself well, anyway thanks

New kernel...now how do I get grub.conf to refer to it?
by Michael Mayhew
Howdy,
I just recompiled my kernel (2.4.22-2115.nptl) and have copied the new
bzImage to the /boot directory. But I haven't the first notion of what to do
with grub.conf. Do I make a new entry (or comment out the existing one? Do I
use the same initrd image as with the last kernel, with this new one? Do I
also use the same root argument value for the kernel command for my new
kernel? I am used to LILO but have never used GRUB before. I have looked in
the 'info grub' pages, and didn't see anything that could help me. Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
Michael

NIC Selection
by Timothy J. Miller
When a system has 2 network cards that are on the same network,
how does FC1 select which NIC to use? By that I mean, Mozilla starts up,
what causes it to use one card, say eth1 over eth0? Anyone know?
Thanks

I don't see anything wrong in fedora's current artwork. What I meant was to give a different look & feel to fedora than Redhat's commercial distributions.
What do you think about shipping Supermount deamon in Fedora? Currently most of us having problem when unmounting CDs etc (Specially using eject button), But its not a problem in Distros like Mandrake which is using Supermount. Do you think it should be done by Kernel org (incorporating it in kernel)?

Nongraphical terminals very dim
by Daniel Durgin
Hi,
Recently, I did just upgrade from KDE3.2.1 to 3.2.2,
login terminals other than F7 are very dim. X11 works
perfectly and so doesn't KDE3.2.2. This problem is
also evident on shutdown when the output of processes
being stopped are shown. This is not the case on
boot.
I am using the NVIDIA driver.
Here is part of my XF86.config

Any Ideas?
