Can I create a DNS list on my computer?
by - - s r b - -
I hope this isn't a stupid question... :-)
Is it possible to create (and maintain) a small DNS listing for websites
that I frequent to enable quicker connecting (I'm on dial-up). And if
so, can I make my computer check this list first, and then the ISP's DNS
if no match is found?
Thanks.

Erratic Mouse after upgrade of kernel on FC2
by Rob Cartier
I am experincing erratic mouse behavior after
upgrading the kernel from 2.6.5-1.358 to
2.6.6-1.435.
It shows alot of errors from the gpmd (console mouse)
and in 'X' the mouse is unusable and if you move it at
all the cursor jumps all over the screen and many windows
start opening.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem.

FC2 Hangs (acpi?)
by Buck Lemke
I did a clean install of FC2. I have been keeping up2date with all the
packages, so currently I am running 2.6.6-1.435, however all three
kernels have had the same problem (2.6.6-1.427 and 2.6.5-1.358). The
machine will just completely lock up after about a day. This usually
happens when the screen saver is on, so I assumed it was related to the
video card some how. I started reading through this list and read about
the 8k stack problem with the nVidia driver (I have a GeForce 3).
Does the 8k stack problem affect the generic driver that ships with
FC2? I haven't installed the nVidia driver yet.
I tried to install the newer kernel from
http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/wlan/full/downloads-fc2-kernel-i686.php,
so I could go with the nVidia driver, but because it is only
2.6.6-1.427, it says that I have a newer version installed. Should I do
a --oldpackage and install that kernel along with the nVidia driver?
Should I build my own kernel (I've done this before, but not recently,
is there a way I can do a make oldconfig from an existing .config?)?
Any other ideas on what could be causing it to lock up?
This is the last thing in /var/log/messages before I rebooted:
Jun 28 04:02:17 wesley su(pam_unix)[10280]: session opened for user
cyrus by (uid=0)
Jun 28 04:02:19 wesley su(pam_unix)[10280]: session closed for user cyrus
Jun 28 04:02:21 wesley logrotate: ALERT exited abnormally with [1]
I also noticed on this list that someone passed acpi=off to their kernel
and that solved their problem. I did that yesterday, and so far so
good...just wondering if anyone has other ideas.
Thanks in advance,
Buck

mailman
by Michael Sullivan
I just installed Fedora Core yesterday. I'd like to host my own mailing
lists, but I've never been able to get mailman to work. I read through
the /usr/share/doc/mailman-2.1.4/README.REDHAT file and followed the
directions. I set up a mailing list called mailman and a site
password. When I ran newlist for the mailman mailing list, it said that
it would be sending me an email (I listed my email address as the list
owner), but I never received the email. I checked /var/mailman/logs,
but the directory is empty. Is there something I'm missing?

ATI All In Wonder --- Has anyone gotten TV capture to work?
by FearOfCarpet
I was wondering if anyone has gotten an ATI All in Wonder RADEON's TV
capabilities working in Fedora? There is a lot of information on the net
about this, but I haven't seen much for the RedHat distros. Apparently I
had it working in Debian, but KDE broke before I could really use it and
I ended up wiping Debian and installing Fefora on that machine. I'm
really only after being able to watch live TV off the S-Video input...
Any info would be appreciated- TIA

"Starting mdmpd: failed"
by Ted Gervais
When I bring up FC2, I see "Starting mdmpd: ....failed".
What is that all about and how can I get that error out of there.
Everything else is so perfect, I just hate to see that 'failure'...

FC2 Issues
by Christensen Tom
I would just like to publicly voice my complete and utter disatisfaction
with you people. Redhat has been my linux of choice for 6 years, and I
appreciated FC1, but since I can't install FC2 because of 2 very huge bugs
(the dual booting bug, and the Asus Mobo bug) that were known well in
advance of release, and were not fixed, and remain unfixed, I will never be
using or recommending a redhat product ever again. You have seriously
destroyed a good product and a good name by not following the #1 tenet of
open source software, namely RELEASE WHEN ITS READY!!! How could you let 2
bugs of this magnitude go completely unresolved through 3 test releases and
the final release when you knew about both of them immediately after test 1
was released in February??!! Get your act together re-release new ISOs that
fix these 2 problems within 2 weeks or you are costing redhat an estimated
50k/yr in licenses that I control. We will be moving to Novell/Suse.
Thank you,
Tom Christensen

New nVidia Driver vd rivafb kernel module
by Greg Swallow
During installation of the new 4kstacks compatible nvidia driver, am
informed it will not operate correctly with the kernel module rivafb
loaded/active. Tried modprobe -r rivafb to remove, but still have
garbage cursor.
Wondering if there is a more permanent way to remove/stop a kernel
module from loading?

latex2html
by Neal Becker
Thanks so much for including latex2html!
Just 1 problem. It's japanese!!!
/usr/bin/latex2html is actually jlatex2html (it has a japanese patch).
I figured out how to fix titles back to english, but dates are still in
japanese.
<rant>
OK, if you take a prominent package, and patch it, and then install it
replacing the original package, you are obligated to clearly document how
to restore the orignal behavior. It appears this japanese patch isn't
documented at all.
<\rant>
Anyone know how to fix this?
