Dual Head and maximum resolution.
by Jim Cornette
I am trying to setup dual head and it seems that the max resolution for
each of the different cards is maxed at 800x600. Is this a normal limit
for dual-head setups. The resolution happens whether I setup the
secondary card for dual head or have it active as a virtual desktop.
Hardware is below for video.
Internal:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corp. 82815 CGC [Chipset
Graphics Controller] (rev 02)
PCI card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R100 QD
[Radeon 7200]

Where did you get it from?
for one - this error happens with few other packages as well (when
installing RHL9 compiled binaries on FC1) - so, its kind of a known
issue.
And then, I think - the '9' in the revision indicates its built for
RHL9.

Up2date
by TongKe Xue
Hi all,
I hav a few questions concerning up2date.
1) What is RedHat's GPG key? Up2date said it was going to "install the
key" but didn't say what the key was.
2) How can I ensure that the packages I download are from
RedHat/Fedora and not spoofed/trojaned? (By the man in middle attack)
Thanks,

Install Older Kernel
by Yang Xiao
Hi all,
I haven't tried this, can I force install an older version kernel rpm?
I tried to install using rpm -ivh and it wouldn't let me saying a
newer version is installed already. I need to install the 2.6.7 kernel
so in case the 2.6.8 craps out, I can fall back to it. I know I can do
this if I uninstall 2.6.8, but it's a pain.
Many thanks,
Yang

I dont get it I am using the standard fedora kernels, why has this
suddenly go shitty for me?

lsmod shows sg & scsi_mod loaded but no ide-cd, and now with the
cdrecord.conf ammendments I can burn an iso as root using cdrecord
using kernel-2.6.8-1.521.
I still cannot use k3b it just hangs at "Scanning Devices...." and
shows as dead "D" in ps.
If i boot into kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2 the following even cdrecord -v
-scanbus dev=ATAPI hangs as root. lsmod shows sg & scsi_mod but no
ide-cd.
Asked another fc2 user in #fedora on freenode to check if they had
scsi_mod and sg which they did, so this might be heading in the wrong
direction.
Thanks

RE: 3ware 9000 Series SATA Raid and Fedora Core 2 ?
by Erwin Cloostermans
I have done something wrong i guess :-(
I did
/sbin/mkinitrd -v -f /boot/initrd-2.6.8-1.521smp.img 2.6.8-1.521smp
In my modprobe.conf is only
alias scsi_host_adapter 3w-9xxx
If I try to reboot the boot process stops with the following error messages
idel: I/O resource 0x170-0x177 not free.
idel: ports already in use, skipping probe
Red Hat nash version 3.5.22 starting
mkrootdev: label / not found
mount: error 2 on mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
umount /initrd/proc failed: 2
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init- option to kernel.
Any idea how I can solve this ?

gnome/gui applets don't work after using changing network parameters
by Basil Copeland
I don't know if this is a gnome issue or not, but it
has been around since at least RH 9, and I now see it
still in Fedora Core 2.
If one edits network parameters using the gui applet
(system-network-config?), the desktop basically stops
working afterwards, and no gui applets open from the
menu until the system is restarted.
I thought it was a quirk of RH 9, or perhaps the
version of gnome RH 9 uses, but I now see exactly the
same behavior in Fedora Core 2, which I just installed
for the first time.
I'm surprised that this behavior still persists, after
all the water that has passed under the bridge since
RH 9.
What's going on? Is there a user fix?
Basil

Two things may be happening.
First do you have the cdrom selected as a boot device? You have to set
that in your machines setup options. Normally hitting the delete key
during boot up or F8 will get you into the setup screens where you can
select the cdrom as a boot device.
The other thing that I think is really the issue is that you have
downloaded and burned the iso for the source CDs. Hence the SRPMS
folder you see on the disk. Check the mirror where you got the iso's
from and you should see there are 8 listed. 4 of them is the
installable distribution and the others are the sources for everything.
You will need to download the correct iso and burn it. Then you should
be able to boot and install FC.
The good news is that you burned the ISO correctly. :)

I downloaded cd's 1 to 4. The first one is FC2-i386-SPRMS-dosc1.iso.
Should that be the one?
Thanks

O dear. Wich cd's did you download? You need the cd's 1 to 4 and not de
SRPMS. At least not yet.
