Hi again,
FYI, those letters didn't help, because they didn't reach the answer at
the end. There are some solutions but they didn't work for me either.
Also, I don't think my router is a DNS server too. It is just a DHCP
server and not DNS. So, the case is still open for any help...

failed to map segment from shared object: ERROR / restorecon
by Michael D. Setzer II
Wonder if others have seen this error, and missed it, since it only
shows if you use the alt-d to watch the detailed boot process. Also, if
anyone knows why the error occurs.
I was just doing an FC3 update on my Computer Lab systems, and
on reboot I was getting a number of failed to map segment from
shared object: Permission Denied
This was a synaptic update, and was the first I've done in a couple
weeks, since the lab was closed while they were installing new
storm windows.
I did a search, and found a link that mentioned to use restorecon to
fix this problem. I noted the ones that I saw in the boot up while
watching the details, but additionally had to do it for libnss_files-
2.3.4.so to get ntpd to work. Before that it would start, but then give
a message that it died.
Here is the little script that I made to get rid of the errors in the
detailed startup, and ntpd.
restorecon /lib/tls/libc-2.3.4.so
restorecon /lib/libnsl-2.3.4.so
restorecon /lib/libm-2.3.4.so
restorecon /lib/tls/libm-2.3.4.so
restorecon /lib/i686/libm-2.3.4.so
restorecon /usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2.2
restorecon /usr/lib/libkrb5.so.3.2
restorecon /usr/lib/libk5crypto.so.3.0
restorecon /lib/libresolv-2.3.4.so
restorecon /lib/libdl-2.3.4.so
restorecon /lib/libnss_files-2.3.4.so
Some directories might be different, since I just did the same update
on a home machine that is only a K6-2, so some files were in
different locations.
Thanks.

[help] [scsi] raidutils with Adaptec 2400A on FC3
by Angelo Piraino
I'm having troubles with an Adaptec 2400A ATA Raid controller on FC3.
Everythings worked fine during installation.
I also installed raidutils-0.0.4 from i2o.shadowconnect, but when I try
to use the command raidutil this is the result:
> [root@omissis ~]# raidutil -L
> osdIOrequest : File /dev/dpti17 Could Not Be OpenedEngine connect
> failed: COMPATIBILITY number
Can anybody help me?
Thanks

success with Firefox 1.0 and Java
by Gerhard Magnus
Perhaps some other newbie running Fedora 3 can benefit from this
summary:
I've been trying to get the Java runtime environment to work with
Firefox 1.0. This is the version that comes with Fedora 3 -- it's from
the package firefox-1.0-2.fc3 and its files are in /usr/lib/firefox-1.0.
After much fiddling with this, I ended up two versions of the Java
runtime environment installed in directories /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_06
and /usr/java/jrel.5.0. I wanted to use the latter, more recent version
5.0 with Firefox.
I went to the directory /usr/java/jre1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns7 where I found
only the file libjavaplugin_oji.so. Then, as superuser, I created a
link in the /usr/lib/firefox-1.0 directory: ln -sf
libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/firefox-1.0/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so.
Executing ls, the link libjavaplugin_oji.so should appear in blue -- if
it appears in red and flashes this means the link has not been
established successfully.
Firefox doesn't telegraph the news that its java plugin has been
successfully installed. A good place to go to test this is
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.jsp -- if you can see the
dancing Duke logo™ image animated in the applet, then the JRE is
functioning correctly.
The main thing I've learned from all this is that unix will be merciless
when a user confuses the letter "l" and the number "1".
Thanks for everybody's help -- and happy new year!

Odd request for how NOT to do something...
by RoboticGolem
I have evrouter set up for the few extra multimedia keys on my
keyboard. Works great, only way it could be better is if Firefox
would title its window so I could set up specifics for that. Anyway,
I have one of those little usb nuberpad things that are designed for
notebooks. I have it hooked up and it works fine, for what its
intended. However, I want it to only be acknowledged by the usbevent
layer so that I can turn the 18 keys on that numberpad into hotkeys.
I can get evrouter to acknowledge and even tie things to the keys
there, but I want it to be ignored as a keyboard. So when I hit the
'1' key on the usb pad, instead of getting a 1 and the programs tied
to it launching just having it launch the app.
cat /proc/bus/input/devices produces this:
I: Bus=0003 Vendor=0a81 Product=0101 Version=0110
N: Name="CHESEN USB Keyboard"
P: Phys=usb-0000:02:00.0-1.1/input0
H: Handlers=kbd event1
B: EV=12000b
B: KEY=10000 7 ff87207a c14057ff febeffdf ffefffff ffffffff fffffffe
B: ABS=100 0
B: LED=1f07
I: Bus=0003 Vendor=0a81 Product=0101 Version=0110
N: Name="CHESEN USB Keyboard"
P: Phys=usb-0000:02:00.0-1.1/input1
H: Handlers=kbd event4
B: EV=10000b
B: KEY=1f0000 20000 3878 d801d101 1e0000 0 0 0
B: ABS=100 0
Now I'm far from a guru, and I really dont know what I'm doing here,
but to me, if I can get the kbd driver to ignore this usbpad, then all
my problems will be fixed. I just dont know how to get the system to
NOT to tie the kbd driver to it and leave the event handler there.
Any help, maybe even a link to where I need to go, I've been googling
for a while, and found a lot of really neat things about dual
headed/legged computers, but I need it to not register as a keyboard
and have it register as just a usb device.
Thanks

Not sure where it's documented specifically for Fedora, but it's the same as
older Red Hat Linux, so all the documentation out there still applies. If
you boot from the small (5MB) boot.iso boot CD, it will immediately ask you
what installation method you want, and http will be one of the choices.
If you boot from the normal CD (disc 1), say "linux askmethod" at the
initial boot prompt, and then you'll be presented with the same question.
Using the full CD if you have it save some bandwidth, as it can avoid
transferring the entire graphical installer at the beginning.

There's a DVD iso out there too, by the way.

Script export problem in FC3
by Samuel Díaz García
I need to modify the PATH environment using a script. My script is:
--begin--
#!bin/sh
export PATH=$PATH:/mydir
--end--
If I run the export command in command line I have no problem, but when
I run my script, and I run
echo $PATH
I can see that the path environtment variable isn't changed.
What can be the problem?
I'm root user when I run the script.
Thanks

USB Help!
by Clay Jackson
I can't seem to get USB support working with FC3. I THINK I've done
everything right; but I don't see any /dev/*usb*; and I can't get
anything to 'register', including a SANDISK Card Reader, a Dymo Label
printer or an HP Printer.
All this stuff USED to just be 'plug 'n play' under SUSE.
Help!
Here's (what I think are) the relevant portions of dmesg right after a
boot:
