Re: Help to use twin 1 gig lan ports
by Jim Christiansen
I've been away to another town for a family medical problem and am just
getting back to our new server setup...
Thank you very much for the files and info. It will help very much.
Our switches are just unmanaged plastic giga bit cheapies- NetGears I
think...
Could anyone give me some advice on what to buy that would still be cheap??
Thanks, Jim

hard disk I/O error fixed only by hdparm -W0 - any clues?
by Vijay Gill
Hi,
I have a seagate hard disk with 8Mb cache. I get hard disk sector
I/O errors but those are easily fixed by using hdparm -W0 on the disk.
Running smart tools does not give any error. Is it because linux
kernel cannot cope with this cache or what? This disk works perfectly
under windoes XP though (I removed Fedora and installed XP).

OT: Flash Players
by Thomas Taylor
Are Macromedia Flash Player and Shockwave Flash Player the same thing? If
not, can they co-exist on one browser?
I'm using Firefox 1.0.7 under FC4 with the Shockwave Flash Player installed
and enabled but the flash items won't displaybut instead displays "click here
to download flashplayer plugin". When I do that installation, nothing
changes, it still won't display.
Thanks,
Tom

mplayer with streaming server
by Amadeus W.M.
I have mplayer installed from livna, but I need to compile netstream (the
streaming server that comes with mplayer, as mentioned in the mplayer
documentation). So I want to use the exact same src.rpm used to compile
mplayer.rpm. Does anybody know where I can find the livna src rpms?
Or what other streaming programs are there for FC4? I did see some info on
the web, but it seems outdated. Real audio has a server for kernel 2.4.x.
Oh, and by the way, why is xawtv no longer available for fc4?

rpmdb segmentation fault
by Spencer Kellis
I'm running fedora core 3 (2.6.12-1.1378_FC3). i noticed yum started giving
me a lot of segmentation faults, so i did some looking around and discovered
that rpmdb was giving segmentation faults. I've looked as far as I know how,
and googled quite a bit, but I'm stuck. Here's some output:

earlier.)

Re: How to get XFS to be properly supported in FC

For the moment, XFS is not officially supported by the Fedora Project
(i.e., you're probably on your own if something breaks).[1] It's also
one of the things on the Wishlist for FC5.[2]

Hope that helps.

Forthcoming FC4 kernel update, more testing required.
by Dave Jones
I've completed a 2.6.13 kernel rebase, and pushed out a
test kernel to fc4-updates-testing. (FC3 probably won't
get another rebase before EOL).
Please give this a try on your systems, and file any
bugs that you happen upon in bugzilla.
You can also find interim 'snapshot' builds at
http://people.redhat.com/davej/kernels/Fedora/FC4/
which may fix additional problems since the last updates-testing
release.
I'm hoping to get this pushed out fairly soon depending upon
the feedback I get from how well this kernel works out.
Thanks,
Dave
