Mount hdd

I would like to mount a fat32 partition so i create /media/echange and add /dev/hdd1 /media/echange vfat rw,defaults,user,umask=0000 0 0 to /etc/fstab the partition is mounted without any pb but i would like this drive appears as a drive in gnome "poste de travail". How is it possible ? Thanks Eric

OT: dual-core or 64 bit?

Hi list; this is off topic. I was wondering which is better a dual-core x86 cpu or an x64 cpu? Which is actually faster/better in "normal" use? How about installation problems and hardware cost? I am not planning any upgrades just yet but am curios. Mick M. usb hd

I plugged in an old hard drive, via usb. I was able to format the drive (fat32, don't ask)- that's as far as I can go with it though... I click on the icon and I'm told I don't have enough privilege to mount the drive. Doh! Another weird thing I've noticed- not sure if it matters. I had to set jumpers at cable select, instead of as master, just so the crazy thing can even been 'seen' by FC. I'm using FC5, but plan on using the set up with 6 (my laptop) and Windows. John

Start only one program at login

Hello, I want to start one application after logging in from GDM, and nothing else - I don't want any of the normal desktop environment. I've been testing with a few different apps, such as gnome-terminal, but so far my attempts have failed. I'm getting an error that says "no profile for user test found", and then I get logged out again. What I've done so far is create a .xsession file, changed the permissions to 700, and added the following to the file: exec gnome-terminal & I know that won't give me any gnome settings, etc., but I'm just playing around at the moment. All I want to do for now is get gnome-terminal started. Problem accessing some https sites

I'm unable to access some https sites for some reason. I can access https://mail.google.com for example, but not my banking site, or another encrypted site. I turned off iptables but still no luck. I also went in the GUI and turned off the firewall from there (isn't that also iptables?). I have a Windows box on a hub with the FC6 box (only two on that hub) which can access those other sites no problem. So the problem is definitely local to my FC6 machine. Any suggestions? Process for file protocol died unexpectedly// Session errors...// KDE restore session

I'm getting a "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly" when I log into my Linux box. When I log in, my desktop has no icons. As soon as I do anything with a desktop file, it refeshes and the icons appear. (For example, right click->new->folder.) Also, my .xsession-errors file has literally hundreds of "+QFile::open: No file name specified" errors in it. Furthermore, whenever I do anything on the desktop, like move an icon, about 20 more such error messages occur. I think the problem originated when I accidentally filled my hard drive. Since then I have freed up a bunch of space. I've also run fsck and its fine error wise. I suspect that KDE is trying to open a file that was used in a previous session, maybe when my computer shut down from a full hard drive. How does one wipe all the previous session info so that KDE doesnt do a "restore session" operation ? Thanks. -- Kim Lux, Diesel Research Inc.
