Dozens Gtk-WARNING after updates
by Paul Smith
Dear All
After having done the today updates, with gtk applications I get
dozens of lines like the following in the console:
«bad image index
(gedit:3449): Gtk-WARNING **: Icon cache
'/usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache' is invalid»
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

Producing pdf files with copyable text
by Paul Smith
Dear All
To get a pdf file with the contents of a web-page, I produce a ps file
and then I use ps2pdf. However, no text can be copied from the
resulting pdf file. Is there other way of producing a pdf file with
copyable text?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

F7- Dictionaries of Thunderbird
by Antonio M
When you have additional directories (other than English-USA) and a
new Thunderbird is installed, only the English-USA dictionary is moved
to /usr/lib/Thunderbird-new, while other dictionaries are left in
/usr/lib/Thunderbird-previous and you have to move by hand.
Similar behavior in FC6 and oldest releases.

I don't know what I'm looking for but there are 2 things that I
noticed about the contents of the /proc/interrupts file:
1. when I typed 'cat /proc/interrupts' I got a message saying
something like 'file not terminated correctly'. I don't remember the
exact wording. It looks like a few characters and the end-of-line are
missing. I'm guessing that this is no big deal and that cat read the
file in the middle of an update.
2. The LOC line has some large numbers; ~1500000 for each processor.
This is immediately after boot up, (Immediate isn't the right word as
it takes ~45mins to boot and log in) Is this normal?
I have updated to FC7T4 and I am now running the 2.6.21-1.3116 kernel
which someone suggested would correct the problem but it did not. I
have also tried with acpi=off as a kernel option but that didn't
change anything either.

Nothing about timeouts. Here are a few things from dmesg that might be

How to prune out old rpm files from fedora repository?
by Paul Johnson
I run a server that has updates of RPMs I build for our lab. The
packages directory is getting too big and fat with 10 or 15 versions
of some RPMS. I wonder if somebody has a script that can clean out
the older versions? Something that cooperates with the createRepo
script?

Can't listen to HID control channel. Address already in use
by Jesus Jr M Salvo
Just installed F7 on my Compaq Presario V6107AU notebook., which
previously had FC6.
During startup, it says:
Starting hidd Can't listen to HID control channel. Address already in
use [FAILED]
The only reference I could find via google is in french. Also, dmesg
does not show anything useful that would give more explanation of the
problem:

The only way I could get rid of the above trace is by removing
"noapic" from the kernel boot parameter, but if I remove "noapic", I
would get lockups and my notebook would freeze under a few seconds /
minutes even before the startup completes. So I have to leave the
"noapic" option added.
Furthermore, my Olympus digital camera when plugged-in to the USB port
is not recognised in F7, but it did with FC6.
When my Olympus digital camera is plugged-in to the USB port, the
camera displays the options "PC, PRINT, EXIT". When I select "PC", it
displays "ONE MOMENT" and nothing happens. Under FC6, after displaying
'ONE MOMENT", the LEDs on the camera would light up and eventually a
new mount point is shown on the notebook.
It is as if the digital camera is waiting for some input or signal
from the notebook.
Any ideas ?

J

FC 6 Install is stalled
by Stan Dereska
Sir,
After buying a SAM's book and CD from a Microcenter a few days ago, I
tried to follow the installation
procedure using a CD but my PC failed to recognize an OS (I've erased
the hard drive which had Win XP).
The book describes an install procedure using a CD from a program
called "kickstart" that causes my
machine to recognize the CD, I believe. How do I boot up to install
FC 6 ? Where can I download kickstart ?
I'm new to Unix and Linux . Thanx for your assistance.
