temporary freezing F7 X86_64
by Jorge Boscan Etura
Hi
I own a compaq presario v6000 (dv6138eu) with nvidia, ndiswrapper, etc
the problem or annoyance that I have now is because the system appears to freeze
for 1 or 2 seconds (sound & video stops), several times each hour
randomly, it behaves just like when we didn't set the DMA in IDE hdd,
only difference, this doesn't have any IDE HDD.
Gracias.

VLC for Fedora 7
by Karl Larsen
Movies on Fedora Core 7
I have the VLC software working with copyrighted DVD's on Fedora
Core 6. It was easy to do. All I did was this: # yum install vlc and it
took awhile because there were over 10 dependant rpm's that needed to be
included. When it was all over I put a DVD in the reader and watched it
full screen! It was amazing.
Today I'm on Fedora 7 which, by the way is working just fine so far,
and I expect to stay here. But I tried to get vlc and it didn't work. I
asked on this list and got a lot of answers but 2 were critical to
getting vlc working on Fedora 7.
I learned I needed another place to get software with yum. I got a
lot of hints. But then I heard from Nigel Henry and Gary Harthill. Gary
has been around and he has made rpm files of the proper files to make
yum work. It is at http://rpm.livna.org/rlowiki/ and the web page is
very clear. They could use some help.
The yum was successful and I have turned it on and it works, but. I
can see and hear small files on my computer that are .wmv types. But
can't watch DVD Movies. This is where Nigel suggested I need one more
file that will make viewing copyrighted DVD' possible. We tried a couple
that didn't work and then I went to my FC6 /usr/lib/ and found the name
we were looking for. I put it in yum and it was loaded and it works.
What I used is:
# yum install libdvdcss.i386 0:1.2.9-4.lvn6 and it worked great. So
here is all you need to do to get vlc working. I suggest you delete
totem which claims to show movies but can't.

FC6 + fglrx + xgl + dualhead + 2 desktops problem
by ArcosCom Linux User
Hi guys,
I had installed xgl and appears to be working.
Now the problem is that on the right screen don't load the desktop, I can
only view a black screen and the mouse cursor appears as a "X" over that
screen.
I can play with beryl on the laptop flat fine (1600x1050 with 24bpp), but
not with the external LCD (1280x1024 with 24bpp). The right screen
(external LCD) works fine witout XGL, and appears to work fine with Xgl,
but the secondary desktop is not loaded into the secondary screen.
With "ps aux" I can see 2 Xorg process and only one Xgl process.
Perhaps I need to make modifications into any gdm configuration files?
What files I have to modify? How?
Perhaps I need to make modifications into xorg.conf to adapt it for Xgl use?
Please, I need help about this.
I think my xorg.conf file is fine, it allow me to play fine with 2
desktops (1 desktop per screen) without Xgl and with fglrx and/or nvidia
drivers, and I can play fine (with the same xorg.conf file) with beryl
only in the other screen only can see the mouse cursor as an "X".
I think (as I can see in ubuntu forums) that I need to modify any gdm
files to force to load 2 Xgl servers, but I don't know how to do that.
Any help?

ALSA issue
by korgull
Hi,
After upgrading from FC6 to f7, my onboard soundcard (which is switched off in
the BIOS) is detected by the kernel and the modules are loaded.
By itself not an issue, but the onboard card is now the default.
How can make sure that the modules for the onboard card are not loaded ?

AdobeReader and F7
by Karl Larsen
I got Adobe Reader fixed for FC6 and I hoped it would work on F7. It
doesn't. It is AbobeReader_enu-7.0.9-1 and it was fixed on FC6. I got
the /usr/bin/acroread from FC6 and put it on F7. It does not work. If I
start it as root with ./acroread it prints out about 1000 of these expr:
syntax error and then quits. I read where someone got version 7.0.1 to
work on F7.
No luck getting that old version but will try again. The Adobe web
page and I do not do well.

Booting F7 Installation DVD
by Dave Cross
I have a Philips Freevents X51 laptop and I'm having real problems
getting the F7 installation DVD to boot.
It boots to the initial screen, where you press "enter" to start the
installation, but at that point it seems that the keyboard is
unrecognised. Pressing any key has no effect at all.
I've used DVDs burnt from downloaded ISOs and the DVD that came free
with this month's copy of Linux Format. But they all fail in the same
way. The same DVDs have worked successfully on other computers.
Some time ago I successfully installed FC6 from DVD on this laptop and
it's currently running Ubuntu which I installed from a magazine cover
disk. But I'm getting frustrated with Ubuntu and want to come home to
Fedora.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Dave...
